I stopped through Winnemucca as a truck driver and decided to give Dos Amigos a try. The photos from other Google reviewers convinced me, as the food on display looked really good.
The restaurant is tucked away behind a casino attached to the Holiday Inn Express. It is a modest dining space, nothing flashy but very casual. The service was very good. The waitress seated me promptly, was on top of drinks, and served the food surprisingly fast. Everything was meeting expectations.
I will preface this next part by saying I really wanted to like the food. Normal Mexican dishes that most Mexican restaurants in America are pretty hard to screw up. I got the Steal Mexicano which is a 12 oz T Bone smothered in onions and peppers. It tasted…well it tasted like nothing. None of the food had much flavor at all. It was all surprisingly bland. Before the steak, I had ordered a single beef taco to try because…well tacos. The beef was flavorless. I was kind of shocked because I really thought I was going to have an overall good meal here. The food looked amazing, but when it came to flavors, it just all fell flat.
Maybe other dishes are a little more flavorful but I left feeling a little...
Read moreWe arrived in Winnemucca after dark. As we checked into our hotel, the desk clerk recommended Dos Amigos. I entered the lobby of the hotel which hosts the restaurant (Holiday Inn Express), I was glad I wasn’t staying there, as the smell of raw sewage was obvious and objectionable. Not finding the restaurant in the lobby of the hotel, I went into the casino to look for the restaurant. After running the smoky gauntlet of the casino, I arrived at the restaurant. Fortunately, the restaurant itself did not smell of raw sewage or cigarette smoke. Ordering was easy, and the food came out quickly. Being in Nevada, getting margaritas to go was fine; we ordered two jumbo margaritas.
I had a chicken burrito and my wife had shrimp tacos. We also had chips with salsa, queso, and guac (the guac was very good). The food was tasty, but the burrito was cold by the time I drove 5 minutes to my hotel. The margaritas were very good (I ordered the best margs on the menu). Before tip, the bill was $65.41. I wouldn’t enthusiastically recommend Do Amigos, but I might stop by for a take out order the next time I pass...
Read moreHands down best service in Winnemucca goes to Tonya. After calling around to places closing soon and being turned away we knew good old fashion Mexican restaurant will let’s us sit no matter what. It was a Friday night, 10 minutes before closing, Tonya sat us, and never pressured us once to leave in a timely manner. She timed everything perfectly for refills on chips, salsa, beers. After being embarrassed for pushing the limits of closing time to the max she let us know we were welcome. Yes we called ahead and a general man had told us it would be fine as well. Tip don’t go to wingers. We called ahead, they said they close at 10, we showed at 9, the manager told us it’s winter hour they close at 9, called me a liar and said we never called. Been t raveling for years you always call the last hour of a business posted time to ensure you aren’t ruining someone’s night. Should of just started with Dos Amigos. The Queso covered chicken and rice is amazing every time. Thanks to your staff. Just listen and watching them all work...
