6/1/2025-I really need Google to make it possible for us to review the same place more than once. Not that anything has changed, except the kind of food I’ve tried and loved at Another Broken Egg. I had a long review about the food, but I ran out of characters. To summarize-the hashbrown Benedict was a worthy choice. But I need to use up my remaining characters for something else. Here’s the thing-the food is excellent at this place. Every visit, even if I already have my food, I see something new to try. But the real star of this place is the staff. I’ve had a different waitress on each of three visits(Today’s was Laura) and all have been excellent. A perfect blend of efficiency and lovely personality. The food doesn’t disappoint(except for when it’s gone)but the staff makes the experience a true delight.
April? 2025-I had a chance to visit the Winston Salem location of Another Broken Egg Cafe during their soft opening/training event on March 15. I loved it so much, I told my mom that I wanted her to try it as well. She, my brother, and I went today. I knew from how wonderful they were during the soft opening, and the fact that they’re new, there would be a wait. I checked the wait time and put us on the waitlist at 10:55. At that time, the wait time was between an hour and an hour and a half. We had other errands to run, so I recommended that we do those first to use up some time. I walked in to the cafe at 12:25 and was greeted politely. They found my name and said it would be a little longer-we were fourth in line. Luckily, it’s gorgeous out, so we waited outside. It was about twenty more minutes and we saw several people choose to leave for other places. We were seated and promptly waited on. Our waitress, Bonnie, asked how long we had waited and I explained about the waitlist and how I knew it would be worth the wait. She appreciated our patience and was very congenial the entire time. It was also nice to be recognized by the waitress I met last time, who recognized me when she brought our food. I’m sure they’ve had a busy couple of weeks and Virginia was still just as sweet and friendly as she was during my other visit. The last time I visited, I had the Deep South Biscuit (which, honestly, has left me with a hankering for fried chicken, a fried egg, and bacon jam for two weeks straight) and I forced myself to try the Floridian omelet. I loved the flavor of the cream cheese filled eggs and the crab meat that covered it. The potatoes were good as well. My brother ordered the Chicken and Waffles, along with a side of the sweet and savory sausage. “The sausage had a unique and great flavor. The chicken was tender, and the breading perfectly crisped and the waffle was just right and went well with the provided chipotle honey drizzle.” My mom chose the traditional eggs Benedict and got a side of pancakes. “The pancakes were a little sweet for me, but I may have added too much syrup. They were still very good. The Benedict was “egg-cellent”. We also got an order of the Beignets. I’ve never had an actual beignet and I know these are made from biscuits-not a traditional way-but they’re still amazing. The powdered sugar on my face and shirt speaks for itself.
I’ve read reviews and many of the negative ones mention the wait time. This is where some research and common sense comes into play-this is a newer brunch restaurant with a fairly large menu. Thruway shopping center is consistently busy and finding parking is difficult-I occasionally go to Dewey’s and Trader Joe’s and it has been this way for years. So when they’re busy-know there will be a wait and it might be crazy. Give the staff some grace-I’m currently a teacher and worked a help desk position for several years in college. It is rare that the person you are speaking to is the cause of your wait.
And definitely give this...
Read moreWe’ve eaten at other locations in FLA and had great experiences, however our experience today was terrible. I acknowledge we were there for brunch on a Saturday, but it was only a 30 min wait, which we were ok with and happy to do.
Our waitress was nice, however, she was the only waitress who used a paper book and not an iPad. Not usually an issue, but today it ended up being one. She brought us water first, then waited 20+ min to come back and take our order. Drinks took another 20 minutes to come out, my husband and I sat there and watched her grab the floor manager multiple times when she was inputting our food order. She then had to step away and come back and ask what we ordered because she couldn’t read her own handwriting. We had told her we needed to place a to go order, and she abruptly cut us off and said to do that when the food came out so it would be ready when we leave.
After our drinks arrived another 30ish minutes passed THEN we got our food. I got pancakes, my husband got the Florida omelette. Took her 10 minutes to bring me syrup, she kept going to other tables to take orders and doing other tasks. My husband had told her he was allergic to onions, but we couldn’t get our waitresses attention so we switched meals because his still had the green onions he had asked to omit. The crab tasted and smelled fishy, so we ended up just eating the pancakes. I had asked for egg whites, and got scrambled eggs. We had been waiting for almost an hour for food at this point so we were just starving and I ate them.
She kept apologizing wondering why our to go order was taking so long ( it was a BLT for reference ) but never went to check. We watched her not go to the back. She FINALLY grabbed someone to check, and THEY never came back out of the kitchen. The sweet waitress next to us finally went back without us asking and came back less than a min later with our order. We were worried that it would be incorrect because both of ours meals were, and thankfully they got that one right. We had told our waitress the person it was for had severe food allergies, so at least they were correct with her dish.
All in all, we spent $100+ on brunch, on my husband’s birthday, and were there a grand total of 2.5 hours. We counted 6 tables of people who were seated well after us, and left way before us. We 100% will...
Read moreMy best friend and I attended the soft open of this place on Saturday, and we had an absolutely incredible experience from the time we stopped in the door to the time that we left (very slowly, because we were very, very full). Everyone on staff that we interacted with was so unbelievably friendly and welcoming. Our server, Virginia, was an absolute delight and we had a blast talking to her. She kept us updated on our order, our drinks stayed full, and she was just fun! The food itself was on another level - I had the Bourbon Street pancakes, grits, and andouille sausage, and the entire meal was flawless. Pancakes were wonderfully pillowy, the pecans involved were generous, and the rum sauce and homemade whipped cream were the perfect toppings. The sausage was so beautifully cooked that for a minute I might have astrally projected to Louisiana. My friend's biscuit (chicken, bacon jam, pimento cheese, and fried egg) was massive and delicious as well. We also tried the biscuit beignets, and as somebody with a penchant for New Orleans cuisine who's also a beignet snob, I loved this take on them: like if a beignet and a good donut hole had a little bebè. They were so delicious, especially if you dip them in their really good coffee. I had to go home and take a nap after the meal, which is the true mark of a good brunch. We left completely thrilled with our experience: beautiful restaurant, great staff, and if you love brunch with some Gulf Coast flair, this is a must see, must eat experience. We will absolutely be back to try more of that...
