The McDonald’s at 195 Akron Drive in Winston-Salem was a disappointment. It looks okay from the outside. It appears to be just another McDonald’s. Within it gets even better as some, if not all, of the planned upgrades for McDonald’s dining rooms have been completed. I have been in other McDonald’s where the venue has been changed and it seemed the behavior of staff and management had been changed at those locations but not here at McDonald’s on 195 Akron Drive in Winston-Salem.
The take-out window appeared to be running well but I still wanted to go inside and get something. Just a cup of coffee. The line inside was composed of four others waiting before me. The clerk was engaged in a personal conversation with a customer who appeared happy for the attention and was strongly engaged in the interaction.
The result of this, however, was that the other customers were being ignored. No attempt was made to acknowledge them or their wait. The reason for the delay was soon seen as a manager, who literally seemed to be staring into space came up to the clerk and provided what appeared to be change. The manager did not acknowledge nor look at the clerk but paced away again looking as if she were somehow expecting to fly back to wherever she had come from. The clerk then began attempting to make change but the clerk was having difficulty with math and the customer wasn’t doing that much better.
After the 10 minute delay for a cup of coffee I decided to depart and leave that whole set of difficulties to themselves. Service with a smile takes service with style. It just doesn’t happen and it won’t ever happen if management is...
Read moreI was in the drive thru around 3:30, places my order, drove up to pay. Cashier informs me that the car ahead of me paid for the wrong meal.
Now the car ahead by this time has my sons's happy meal and my large fry. I see them inform him that something was wrong he then passed the food back I guess he gets upset and drives off. I tell the cashier that I don't want the food that he had in his car. You never know kid might have sneezed everywhere, he might have started eating the fries, I don't know. She says no they will throw that food away.
I start to pull up to get my food and the drive thru person has the food in his hands, I then tell him " I don't want that food". He says they didn't go thru it and reached for my sons drink and drops the bag with my fries in it, he tries to hand me the happy meal I then tell him I don't want that food or those fries that you dropped, he then puts new fries in the same torn bag with the same grease stains and thought I would be okay with it , and I could see everything. He then went in the trash can to show me that he threw the fries away, then put hand sanitizer on thinking it was okay not to was his hands
He was never rude or got angry but clearly didn't know 1. That he needed to get someone if he wasn't clear on what to do if someone didn't want something. Didn't know that putting hand sanitizer on is not a replacement for washing your hands. Just common sense to know that I'm paying for my food, just throw it away and get a new happy meal.
No supervisor or management ever came to the line and I was in that line at least 20...
Read moreCompared to other McDonald's the drive-through experience is a bit slower and more backed up thank what I am used to. The young lady taking my order was extremely polite. Where it got strange...I always order my drinks with light ice. Always. This has literally NEVER been a problem at a single McDonald's since I started driving (lol). Well, when I get to the 2nd window, the young lady there hangs me my Large drink, full of ice, with a little drink in it. I explained to her I ordered it with light ice. She just stared at me. Then she said the most ridiculous excuse in the history of the free world. "Ma'am, the machine makes all our drinks. I have no control over how much ice you get." Say what? I just stared at her in disbelief... because I travel for my full time job, and my part time job. So I am often ordering drinks at McDonald's. I have literally NEVER had a problem before this experience. Nor have I been told a machine makes the drinks and so I couldn't get light ice like I requested. I continued to hold out my cup to her and said, you are telling me you have no way to make my drink with half ice? I have never heard of that? She snatched the drink from my hand and closed the window, and came back a minute later with a new drink and said here .... Overall, poor customer service. She was basically lying straight to my face. They may have something that assists them in making drinks, but in my experience if a customer orders light ice, no ice, extra ice, etc.. they have always been...
