Today was the sixth time I have driven here, only for the place to be closed during opening hours. The past five times (October-November) I have tried to visit all been at around 12:30 (weekdays, when it was supposed to be open at 12), and everytime the place is locked up and labeled closed. I stopped visiting after that continuous string. However, today, friends wanted to go in, so I accompanied them. When we walked up at 1 o clock, they were closed. When we looked online, there was a notice that they would be closed until 2 for special circumstances. That was fine, since at least we knew what was going on. So we took a hour out of our day to walk around downtown in the cold to pass time until 2 o'clock. When we got back at 2:10, they still weren't open. Fine, I figured, I'd wait another 30 minutes or so since we had already waited for an hour. We talked to another group, who also were wondering if Rena Marie's wasn't open- apparently, they had also had this same trouble in the past. We then walked into an another Cafe and killed time until we thought they might be open. When we went back to check in, about 2:40, they still were "Hooting Closed". I didn't write about the first 5 times- instead, I just spent my money elsewhere. But today, I waited aroind for over an hour just to still be disappointed. I don't think I will be able to keep visiting, since it keeps ending up being a waste of time. I would appreciate if the staff would update customers when they decide that they will be opening late for the day. It's a shame, because this is the only good boba in Winston, and I really have wanted to come here and support it. However, 6 times in a row is extreme for the staff to not be open during...
Read moreBubble tea is delicious. This is why I was so excited to stumble upon this shop while driving through downtown W-S. Sadly, I did not receive the same exceptional service others have raved about.
The gentleman behind the counter did not greet my daughter and I, nor did he make us feel welcome (smile, small talk, etc.) Conversely, he was visibly annoyed by our presence. Red flag
On the menu board there were two options under the heading Traditional Tea. They were not listed as bullet points, but as actual numbers 1) and 2). We both playfully ordered the Traditional Tea Option #2. This is the green tea option. However, he was quick to correct us and voiced his displeasure in us calling the drink "Option 2." "It's just called Green Tea. No one refers to it as Traditional Tea Option 2." Red flag (Note to cashier: Never correct a customer. Especially over something so petty.)
The transaction continued and he asked if I had cash to pay. I did not. He stated (in a rude tone) next time I should bring cash as there is a 3% transaction fee for using a card. I did not see this displayed anywhere. My transaction was above the $5/$10 minimum some smaller establishments charge for low dollar amount purchases. That's when I'd had enough. I asked him to cancel my transaction and ask the barista not to make our drinks. I requested my card back in my hand and informed him that I will not be spending money in an establishment I don't feel valued. To that he stated, "What's your problem?" I replied, "I have no problem. We're just leaving. Have a...
Read moreFirst time visitor craving some bubble tea. No one at the register when I arrived. Stood for a while before someone came out to take my order. I had to ask her few times to remove ice from my drink because I don’t like when it melts and makes the drink watery. She didn’t seem to like this request. My Thai milk bubble tea was over $7 given the National bubble tea shortage, which I understand, but given that please go the extra inch to tailor the order when “no ice” is requested. The lid was left with some liquid on the outside which ended up on my hands. Thank you for your response. I did get light ice as requested and I do understand that no ice could mean a warmer drink. However the tea can also easily be chilled. Smaller amounts can also be served to avoid higher cost to the business. Overall, it just wasn’t a great experience. But small adjustments could make all...
