I love Park Ave and I always saw this spot and thought I needed to check it out. I often hear people raving of plenty of places on Park Ave but not much about this restaurant. We decided to finally go for our Valentine’s Day.
The food was very good. Somehow not the best and no where near the worst.
We started with the Burrata-Heirloom tomatoes, creamy burrata cheese, red wine vinegar reduction. This was ok, nothing overly special about it. The tomatoes and cheese were fresh and the bread was warm and crispy.
I also got the Bovine Onion Soup-Gruyere melt, crisp bread. The soup was a little salty for my taste but of course I still ate the cheese. The crisp bread potion was a little over “crisped” making it difficult to eat.
For my main I had a Classic Filet Mignon with a side of truffle butter and hollandaise sauce. It was a very good steak, really cannot say much else about it. It was cooked perfectly to my medium rare request, and wasn’t overly charred. I didn’t love the hollandaise sauce but the truffle butter was great.
We shared the sides of truffle fries and the Roasted Brussels Sprouts-shallots, neuskes bacon, white wine vinegar, maple glaze The fries were of course great. We did not care for the Brussels sprouts at all… the flavor was great but I personally prefer a more crispy Brussels sprout and they do them a bit more soft. It’s just a texture preference I think.
Our service was wonderful. Very attentive, she answered all our questions, and even took our photo for us after our meal.
After noticing we didn’t eat many of the Brussels sprouts she had them removed from our bill, we appreciated that very much.
The atmosphere in this place is super cool! Very unassuming from the outside. It looks so small when you first walk into the bar/lounge type area… but as you walk back and round the corner it opens into this large, all brick, dark, masculine type dining room. You would never know that it was tucked back in there when looking through the windows passing by. They also have a very unique semi private dining area off to the side with super these cool almost torch like lights and arched windows. You kinda have to see it to understand it.
Overall I don’t know if I would rush back. Nothing about it stood out to me besides the atmosphere. For a steak house type restaurant I tend to enjoy the ones that have a little extra something unique within the meal and I didn’t find that here. I would however sit at the bar for some appetizers and drinks and enjoy the overall ambiance the...
Read moreTerrible food, atrocious service, and an un appealing atmosphere.
Let’s start off with the service as this was the worst of all. Even though the restaurant is almost always empty, staff are loudly cussing, talking poorly about the customers that are in the restaurant, and also making inappropriate jokes the whole time. For a place considered a high-end steakhouse in the city, this is as far from it as it can get. Also, don’t expect to be checked on at all during your meal.
Next, the atmosphere is terrible. It is way too dark in the restaurant to be able to see anything, the lights on the table are exceptionally dim.
Last, the food is really bad and expensive for what you get. For a $21 shrimp cocktail, the dish came out with three shrimp, and the shrimp had an incredibly fishy smell as well as a rubbery texture. It tasted like something you might get from a grocery store.
Next, the French onion soup was actually the best dish of the night, even though the top of the French onion soup was rock, solid with bread and cheese that had not fully melted. It was also way too salty and did not have much of an onion flavor. However, like I said, this was the best dish of the night.
Lastly was the lobster roll. This restaurant barely uses any real lobster as a few pieces of lobster on top are quickly overshadowed find an imitation lobster that is throughout the rest of the sandwich. The lobster itself did not taste fresh, and there were pieces of the exoskeleton throughout the sandwich, which led to many times having to pick out those pieces as you are eating. The fries are also not even crispy, and the restaurant does not have any other dipping options besides ketchup.
Overall, this was just a terrible restaurant, and I would not suggest...
Read moreHave been wanting to try Bovine's for a couple years and a group of 6 went for Magical Dining on a Tuesday night. The restaurant is large and was mostly empty and we were given a table by the servers station. Half of my group had already arrived and were seated but I couldn't understand why we would be seated there when we would be dropping close to $1000. The restaurant never came close to a quarter capacity.
All members of our party ordered steaks from the Magical Dining menu. 4 filet mignons and 2 upgraded bone-in ribeyes. All were cooked to specified doneness and delicious. Appetizer salads were generous and dressings amazing. Drinks were high but good. Sides of mashed potatoes (soupy) and brussels sprouts were okay. I had onion soup and another had lobster bisque which put us over the top but had to sample. My steak came lukewarm and I asked to try their steak sauce. A table mate shared hers which turned out to be very vinegary and mine didn't arrive until half my steak was gone. By this time, I was full and didn't eat the rest of the steak or use the condiment size steak sauce.
All in all the meal was good and worth the upgrade Magical Dining $60 price. Disappointed in table on a slow night and that server split bottle of wine between all 3 couples without asking. I only took a sip to taste it and was charged for 1/3 of the bottle. We are dear friends and they owe me a drink at our next dinner out. Also was charged $4 for steak sauce which came late and I didn't use. This charge wasn't noticed until I got home. All charges should have been explained. Sorry Molly, you dropped the ball on that, otherwise service was cheerful if not the...
