Based on visits to other Niche restaurants, I had high expectations for GIO. Unfortunately it still needs a bit of polishing.
The good: The oysters were very good and reasonably priced. The food was overall very tasty.
The mediocre: The menu seemed to be lacking identity...a lot of unrelated options. I wish that the sides were more customized to the dishes rather than just mashed potatoes and green beans with everything. Service could have been better - maybe better training is necessary. Our waitress opened our wine bottle without cutting the foil - literally ripped the cork through the foil, leaving jagged edges. We were not offered a wine bottle chiller and had to ask after seeing others with one. Table visits were very infrequent, even after things quieted down. Food was a bit overpriced. Lobster roll had more bread than lobster.
At the end of the day, we were left with a "Bocado" size bill without the same quality and experience. I'll definitely give it another shot in the future, hopefully after they've ironed out some of...
Read moreOn a random Wednesday evening, I had a reservation for four adults and two children. Upon arriving at the restaurant, we discovered that it was empty. We were seated directly outside the women’s restroom. We repeatedly requested that the hostess relocate our tables, and the alternative option she suggested was to move us to the other side of the women’s restroom. When our waitress approached us, we inquired again, and she was able to transfer us to a different section of the restaurant. It would have been a simple task for the hostess to make this change from the outset. However, the hostess spent the entire duration of our two-hour visit engrossed in their phones. Our waitress was evidently new to the hospitality industry, but she was at least pleasant and amiable. Given the substantial bill, which exceeded $400, including a tip, the service provided at this establishment is unacceptable. Additionally, the quality of the food was merely satisfactory. The...
Read moreWe had an amazing experience this evening at GIO! Our waitress Michelle was very attentive, friendly and gave great recommendations while not being overbearing. Also i must say that this is a truly awesome addition to the worcester seafood restaurant scene that i feel for upscale seafood had been dominated by sole for years. However the price-point to quality here is far superior. I think WRG is on notice that they have some serious competition in town.
It was also a super nice touch that the manager Dana stopped by and had the car pulled up for us to be ready for when we left.
Super attentive service and great food. Try the oysters, bread service, crab dip - and the stuffed lobster is an absolute highlight. Drinks were strong but ballances as well.
We will...
