On Friday NOV 29, 2024, my son who came up her from Champaign Urbana, wanted to take his daughter out for her 3yr old birthday. He wanted to take her to beggars pizza on 127th Western in Blue Island. I'm a OEF combat vet. So in the cold. Me, my wife our 4yr. old grandson, the 3yr old birthday girl, my two daughters, my two sons. My grandkids mother and her sister. Went into Beggars Pizza. They did not have any signs that said "No dining in." There were 4 ladies standing behind the counter talking and on their phones. A female Blue Island police office was leaning on the counter, scrolling her phone. They told my wife my that they don't do big parties. There was nobody in the dining area. They told my wife she had to order the pizza and pay for it up front. She ordered the pizza. We went and sat down. Then they called our name to come pick up the pizza. When we went to go get the pizzas. They had it in a to go box as if we were going to take the pizza home. They knew we were dining in. We had the plates and cups. My daughter and my grandkids mother went in the bathroom to wash their hands. There was no hand soap in the bathroom. Q. How were the workers washing their hands after using the bathroom, if there was no handsome in the bathroom? They went and asked for some handsome because there again wasn't any in the female's bathroom. So then all of a sudden my wife noticed a white male Blue Island police come in. He, the female police officer and all of the workers went in the bathroom. They came out and said that we had to go. They didn't want us there. They claimed that the females threw tissue on the floor. So they wanted is to leave. Q. They didn't have no proof they the females (my daughters, grandkids mother and sister) did put tissue on the floor. They kicked me a OEF combat vet, the 3yr old birthday girl and the rest of my family out from Beggars on 127th Western. When my family left out. I talked with both the male abd female Blue Island police officer. The female police officer said "The ladies were being rude." I said how. They didn't say nothing to no one when they came in. If they were being rude when they walked in. She the female Blue Island police officer didn't say anything to anyone. Which means they just didn't want us (Blacks) there. The service was bad and the way they treated us blacks was bad. On my way out, another white Blue Island police was coming in. They called for more back up. Im saying this to let everyone know what they're going to be dealing with. I had a friend who came and said that he had a party of 15 can they come and dine in. They said yes but last night they did not let my granddaughter have a nice birthday party outing. They act liked they didn't want us (blacks) there the minute we walked...
Read moreI had an outing with my family for my nieces 3rd birthday and me and my family ended up getting the police called on us to let us know we got to leave😒Not just one cop car but two like we were a threat or we were going to do something to someone!!! We’ve never had that issue with any restaurants we dined in!! The female workers say we came in rude but we came in as a family asking to be seated and we wanted to order. My family and I all came in together and nobody recalls any type of disrespect when we came in cause we also had two babies with us and it was a special occasion. The female employees from our POV were acting as if they didn’t want to work or be there!!! If that’s the case LEAVEEE!!! Employees( mainly females) on their phones. Additionally, my mom, sisters and I along with my 3 year old niece went into the bathroom to wash our hands and noticed there wasn’t any soap in the bathroom. So we’re thinking and saying out loud cause honestly this is a place where people eat… how y’all don’t restock bathrooms especially if y’all in the kitchen making people’s food. Ohh OHH but what they did have stocked was the employees only soap dispenser… but not the washrooms. So then we start having complaints because in our minds that’s unsanitary and dirty. One claimed we broke the dispenser😒Lady that dispenser we didn’t even have to physically touch. Hand go under soap comes out we ain’t do a damn thing to that dispenser!! WE JUST WANTED TO WASH OUR HANDS AND EAT! We had to use the employees only sink outside the restroom to wash our hands. We wanted to combine the tables they, one of the young female employees, claimed we couldn’t…since when can’t we combine tables if it’s know that families come in and may want to sit down and eat, AS A FAMILY. On top of that we were the only ones inside the damn restaurant!!! We were celebrating our niece birthday and reminder AGAIN SHE JUST TURNED 3. We were taking photos and not bothering anybody we were trying to spend family quality time together. Not everybody that comes in there is coming for a pick up some people may want to sit in and enjoy their dine-in. So the police came and told us they wanted us to leave… we’re all confused as to why we all finally just sat down and started eating. Reminder we were an all black family trying to eat some order in, eat the pizza, and then leave… However, we couldn’t even finish. It wasn’t even a few minutes we were in there…. This Beggars Pizza is highly not recommended at all. It’s built for pick ups only They ain’t like the other beggars where you could sit in and have a normal outing while enjoying time with your family… AND IT WAS COLD INSIDE LIKE IT AIN’T...
Read moreThis is again a local staple establishment that is frankly overrated.
The food is overpriced, unimpressive and commonly flavored. Known mostly for loading their mostly generic style pizzas with lots of bland cheese.
A recent visit for a pick up order of wings (24 pieces) took them 40 minutes to complete. I was told it would be a 15 to 20 minute wait. This was on a weekday around 4 pm with only 2 tables full and 1 pick up order ahead of me. To be fair, I'd suspect maybe they had deliveries to fullfill as well.
40 minutes wouldn't seem like much if the wings were unique, if not delicious, but they weren't. These were your standard frozen wings defrosted and dipped in the most generic tasting buffalo sauce. Deep frying from frozen and pouring sauce on some wings should not take 40 minutes and it certainly shouldn't have cost around $35 dollars.
One could argue, this is a pizza place and wings are not their specialty -- and I'd agree with the last part and still question the first. Maybe in the south suburbs Beggars is considered 5/5 but that may just be due to a lack of a proper measuring stick.
And all of the above is just about the flavor and cost. The service is lacking what I'd describe as an apathetic staff -- not rude but not engaged. The girl who took my order looked bored and I got the feeling she couldn't wait to just finish the transaction. After, sitting there waiting quietly (I did not complain) for 40 minutes for my order. I heard my name, I walked up to the counter where a different girl handed me my order and simply walked away. No thank you or acknowledgement of the customer standing in front of her.
Wouldn't visit here again -- as I can get equal quality or better cheaper at many...
