Called in to go order of seared tuna over salad and an order of shrimp tacos (market special of the day) and side fries. Get home and unpackage, tuna had a slight off putting tint but against my better judgement, I gave it a shot. Terrible idea. Tuna had gone bad, but cook could have noticed that and never used for a meal if they had any experience with seafood.Typically wouldn’t order tuna from a burger joint, but I gave them a chance. Do not order the seafood here.
Also their “market fresh” shrimp tacos when I opened the box they were literally open faced with a pile of greasy fries over top of both… needless to say I wasted the $50 I spent and when I went to call the restaurant to rectify the problems they created I was directed to an email. Sent 3 emails over the course of 3 weeks in an attempt to give them the opportunity to right the wrong without having to post a review publicly and have still yet to get a response- Poe’s do better. Also, PSA: stay away from the seafood at this joint. Burgers are mediocre at best anyhow and Grimm Burger is right around the corner- Hands down best burgers and highest quality in Wilmington… and better priced.
Update- The original email address used was the one given on their voicemail, clearly unmonitored and different from the one in the review response below. After reaching out to the alternate one given in the response a few times I’ve yet to hear from them. Leadership here is JV squad at best… do better yall- Total waste...
Read moreBeing a HUGE Edgar Allan Poe fan I made this place a top priority to visit the next time I ever came back to Wrightsville Beach. Let me just say the atmosphere is so welcoming I love how everything is decked out of paintings and memorabilia of Poe. There is plenty of seating inside and in the patio as well there is even Edgar Allan Poe references in the bathrooms as well plus the bathrooms are very well maintained. Pricing as far as food drinks on the appetizers go it is very fair considering it's right by the beach I took my wife and kids here and our bill came out to $46 dollars including tip. I was really happy with how well the food was portioned and the appetizers as well the staff being so helpful and friendly. I really enjoyed the music that played here while I ate because it's such a wide variety of different genres. Only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is because my food took almost a half hour to arrive and our drinks took long to refill plus it wasn't even busy inside the restaurant. Nonetheless the waitress forgot about us at times but like as stated before she was really nice and sorry for how long everything took. I will be more then happy to come back here because of how good and responsibly priced and portioned the food was plus I can't get enough of all the Poe decor. I would recommend coming here after 5 pm so you don't have to pay for parking if you can't find a spot on the side of...
Read more"Profit minded" is how I would describe Poe. I don't know what the appeal of this place is, unless it is the fries. They give you a lot - skinny fries. They get cold quickly (but they taste good cold also). The burger had an unpleasant aftertaste. The cheese was so thin it could have been painted on - it added no taste to the burger. The burger's bottom bun is easily dissolved by the burger juice. I thought by eating the burger upside down it wouldn't happen, but it happened anyway. To finish, I had to use a fork. For pennies more, why not use hardier buns? Eating the cole slaw is like eating raw cabbage. The chili is served in huge but shallow bowls, with contents that would struggle to fill a cup. The wine pours are skimpy. I was not asked if I wanted a soft drink refill until our meal was over. And - the cheeseburger costs $17.50. I don't mind paying that much for a burger meal, but not for poor quality. This review is based on several visits over several years. I have to admit that Poe is very consistent. In their case, that is not a compliment. I see that the owner responds to posts. The restaurant is popular and mine is a minority opinion, and thus useless. Owner: In all my years of eating out, this is only the second negative review I have ever...
