Zero Stars if we could.Urgent Caution for Potential Visitors to Yachats: Dangerous, Racist, DISCRIMINATION
Serious and deeply concerning incidents demand that prospective visitors exercise extreme caution when considering travel to Yachats. Repeated and unsuccessful attempts to contact City Manager Bobbi Price regarding these critical safety and community issues underscore a potential lack of responsiveness from local leadership.
Our direct experience in Yachats included blatant discriminatory treatment at a local business, creating a hostile environment. Alarmingly, we were subsequently harassed and followed by individuals openly displaying virulently racist "Keep Yachats White" signs in public, with a complete absence of any law enforcement intervention. This raises grave concerns about the safety and security of non-local individuals visiting the city. To have a sign that says keep your hot way. You must first know the history of Yachats m, being that we are Indigenous people, and we are direct descendants of the Alsea tribe, the first Indigenous people who touched the coast of Yachats, we know the history of the area. This area had little to no European influence until the flu and sick-riddled conquistadors washed to shore. It was never white, sorry to tell you, buffoons. You all are simply colonizers occupying space. Furthermore, our treatment at a local restaurant *LUNA SEA FISH HOUSE, was unwelcoming and we received poor service, the assigned to our table avoided waiting on us. This was accompanied by the nasty stares that she kept giving members of our party. They just dropped our food off and didn't wait on us for anything else. We had to ask for condiments and napkins several times. No refills were given. The food was alright. Overpriced, but to be expected in a tourist town.
Compounding these issues, attempting to address these concerns through official channels was met with unhelpful and condescending behavior from a City Hall employee, Loraine, regarding the city's confusing online complaint system. Marked as "trackers" on the website instead of "file a public safety complaint".
Given these alarming firsthand accounts of discrimination, harassment, and a seemingly unresponsive local administration, potential visitors are STRONGLY URGED to reconsider travel to Yachats at this time, do not travel here, and do not patronize. Stores here, do not spend your money or donate your time to this city. Unless they do some serious community damage control. The documented incidents suggest a clear and present risk to the safety and well-being of those who are not part of the local caucasian colonized community. Until demonstrable action is taken by city authorities to ensure the safety and inclusivity of all visitors, proceeding with a trip to Yachats could expose you and your family to significant danger and mistreatment. Prioritize safety and conduct a thorough risk assessment before traveling to this region. Ensure the safety and well-being of yourself and...
Read moreJust thought I'd share what passes for local Oregon caught Chinook salmon at $32 a pound, this is supposably one of the best seafood places along the coast but this is inedible and just gross, it's not a one time mistake either, every time I check salmon out it looks like it was ran over by a truck , mushy and weird colors, go check out Local Ocean Seafoods, to see what fresh salmon should look like, this includes you Robert, owner of Luna's, you should know better being a former fisherman, and on a lesser note your salads could use help to, tomatoes are mushy and your store bought salad dressings taste like chemicals and ruins whole experience, which is weird considering tartar sauce, cocktail sauce is house made, the "grilled" fish option is not cooked on a grill, but on a griddle and its usually bland and overcooked, on a positive note, other than these glaring issues most of the food is usually decent if you like batter style.kind of on the heavy fish donut style..., dont order the salmon though!* Update* with new and gross pictures of restaurant! bathroom door looks like its never been cleaned, literally years of dirty hands to get to this point, gross fly strips and dirty ceilings, unorganized clutter, and a dirty bathtub full of trash? That stuff has been in that tub for as long as i can remember, typical lazy coastal business with not much competition and serious lack of state health inspections apparently.Update Bathroom still not cleaned, same tub full of trash 9 months after my first review, and has literally been like this for years, door and light switch covered in years of gross gunk from hundreds, of dirty hands..keep up the good work!!! This review has had close to 1,000 views maybe clean your bathroom now? Gross* October 12 2024 Update* Just added more pictures of disgusting bathroom..so now its been at least a year since i posted first pictures of bathroom, and it STILL has not been cleaned?!!!? This review has over 1,000 views..how is it possible the owner/staff has not seen it as well? Let alone noticed the bathroom literally looks like its NEVER been cleaned..still same dirty random stuff in a bathtub? Fertilizer etc..and not only has place gone downhill or more likely Always been downhill. Prices have increased dramatically anywhere from $20 to $27 depending on type of fish you order..price gouging with inflation as a excuse, if you want the actual best fish and chips ( and not some old outdated newspaper article Lunas proudly displays) go to Oregon Fishmongers who is a actual working fisherman and not a retired slumlord, and prices are great. Its a panko style thats way crispier...
Read moreI will start with the atmosphere and service before getting to the food.
Love the outdoor setting. What I would do for an coast restaurant. The service was excellent except the one person who was delivering our food kept trying to give it another table because they didn't get the number right or she couldn't read it the server handwriting.
Now the food. I'm giving this a 1 start because of someone put cheese in my clam chowder. I've had clam chowder from coast to coast and neve had cheese just automatically added. I was in the bathroom when the cup of chowder arrived. My son was eating his. I sat down, added the crackers and mixed. What I didn't know was the white cheese had melted and blended into the chowder.
For some reason when I took my first bite it tasted off. Like a bad sour milk taste. I asked my son how does his taste and he said fine. I would of never ordered this if I knew it had cheese in it. And for a cup at $9.50 I was expecting something fantastic. Was very disappointed.
I ordered the halibut and chips(fries). Very generous portion size. The breading was light and the fish was moist. Not much flavor in the breading. Use the lemon to bright up the flavor profile. Ended up just taking the breading off and eating the fish. Halibut was fresh and excellent. The fries were, well fries.
Total for Cod and chips and Halibut and chips, two cups of clam chowder and two drinks...$72.
Sorry not worth it. The taste was nothing special and since I had this awful leftover taste of sourness in my mouth from the cheese infested chowder...I will stick to another place.
My suggestion is add exactly what your food will include on the menu. Or just maybe ask if they want something like that. This automatically assumption may cause someone...
