My two stars are for the wait staff and the kitchen, who have no say in the matter. Kawaii tori went from being one of the best options in the area for dinner to being the worst. Alex, Nick and and the sushi team are amazing guys, just trying to take good care of people with one hand tied behind their backs.
The food is quality, but they need to decide what their priorities are. They serve the take out orders and neglect the dinning room. It's now happened multiple Fridays in a row. I now feel like a fool for giving them my business so many times with the same experience. I kept hoping they would improve given the direct feedback we have given the managers. They apologize, but are seemingly without power to make changes.
The food timing is atrocious. Watching the take out orders fly out the door while some of our entries come out before our appetizers, one entry doesn't come out at all, then comes out 45 minutes later. Its just not okay. We have been patronizing this business since its inception at the old location. I feel sad for the team that works there. They clearly know what's going on, but whoever is the person of authority remains ignorant to the feed back.
The solution is simple: Start caring about your customers more than the bottom line. Shrink the dinning room and seat less people, or turn away more takeout orders. It's clear that fulfilling the takeout orders takes precedent over the dine-in customers. When you try to give verbal feedback, the team just kind of helplessly shrugs and give you a free beer. Get out of the way and allow your qualified team to make the changes to improve the business or continue to let them operate helplessly. They want to do better. You should let them.
Based on other customers I've spoken to and observed while dinning there, we aren't the only people with these repeat experiences. I wonder how long it will take to be honest about the problem. It also takes a lot of frustration for me to take time out of my day to write this review, so understand that I hope this helps Kawaii tori improve...
Read moreOriginally dined in at the old restaurant location on 11/14/2021. This location was small & intimate, the waiter Alex was amazing! The food was also great. The entire experience was very positive.
Fast forward to 11/21/2021, my boyfriend and I returned because he was craving sushi again, we decided to return since our experience was so positive the first time. Just a week later our experience was like night and day. The restaurant moved down the street and it was apparently night 1 of the new location. At a glance, the new location looked beautiful. However, once we were seated we noticed the table had stains all over and there were used chopsticks on the floor from the party who sat there before us. There were no plates or napkins on the table— we had to request those. Service was average despite us being 1 of 2 tables occupied. It didn’t feel as though the staff was very attentive. What remained consistent was the food! We received our check and paid through a QR code on the receipt which suggested to pay through this method and left. Before we know it the owner and waitress come running outside after us yelling “DID YOU FORGET YOUR CHECK?!”, suggesting we had left without paying. My boyfriend responds by saying “we paid through the QR code” and the owner says “oh I didn’t know we had that” What is interesting is that their original location had a similar, contactless self pay method.
How do you own an establishment and aren’t aware of the type of payment that is recommended for your patrons? Especially when the recommended method of payment is listed on your patrons’ receipt. We couldn’t help but feel profiled. This experience left a very sour taste in our mouths, and we won’t...
Read moreWe have been coming to Kawaii Tori every Friday night date night since it’s soft opening inside of Pretty Bird a few years ago. We had our regular spot at the bar and everyone knew what we were ordering. We adore the sushi, the sushi chefs and love the service we get from Alex, Nick, and Jordan. Since moving to a new and bigger location it is very evident that there aren't standards or training in place to ensure that guests have a positive experience and don’t feel like a number. The last 4 times we have been here we waited for well over an hour for our food to come out. When questioned about it the answer was that they were slammed with takeout and there was nothing they could do about it. That’s beyond unacceptable. People eating at your establishment should always take precedent. At a certain point I would expect that someone would explain to the managers that they need to turn take out off and cater to the customers dining in house but we have been told us the person in charge won’t allow them to do that. It is clear that we aren’t the only people who have experienced this problem when we are there and see other people waiting for long periods of time as well while the take out orders are being packaged and sent out front rapidly. This place has the potential to be so so great and it’s unfortunate that from seemingly much feedback the person in charge doesn’t want to address the problems and to make much needed changes. We will be so sad not to enjoy the sushi and see our favorite servers as we choose a new Friday...
