First off, I walked in and saw that the new ownership has created an atmosphere that feels like a high school gym with poster board signs adding to the whole amateurish look.... and pizza boxes on 6 tables!! No hello.... nothing. No sense of urgency from ANYONE. The boy at the counter didn't understand what unsweetened tea is and INSISTED that the sweetened lemon Fuze tea is unsweetened.... uh, no. 20 minutes to get a French fry and the pizza quite some time later. Oh, and no sizes of pizza other than large. Really?? Once we got the pizza, it was hot and looked good enough, but had zero flavor. ZERO. The pizza sauce is tasteless - like right out of the can. Ugh. So disappointing. First, that the new owner chose to change too many things (hours, menu, decor, etc...) about a business that has done very well with a loyal following for many years. Second, that the guy I spoke to (owner/GM?) had a totally insincere "apologetic" attitude about change and that he knows what people want..... clearly not. We shall see how this venture pans out.... I predict it won't last. UPDATE IN RESPONSE TO OWNERSHIP: I am not nor have ever been a "friend" or acquaintance of previous ownership. Congrats on responding in a positive, customer service manner. Validates my review.

Over 30 years, and I barely remember it. I passed by this place often. It finally piqued my interest because there's a billboard for it leaving Spring Grove, headed toward 30, on 116. Good pizza as far as strip mall pizzas go. Not as much grease as other places. Still had to soak it up with napkins. Inside was decent. I liked the table clothes, although they were beat up. The place could use an upgrade. It was pretty clean thoggh. But I'm sure it pulls in some good business. While I was there, they had a few people coming in for takeout. I liked the simple, go up to the counter and order. No where did I see a sign asking for tip. I paid with a card and had no annoying screen asking me to pay a tip. If you have tip fatigue, this place is great!

Visiting York from out of town. I had an inch to eat some Stromboli like one does in Pennsylvania. We were lucky enough Shakey Jakes was open until 11. My team and I visited and most of us ordered a Boli. We were told a small would feed one person. So I ordered a large. Holy Stromboli, this thing was huge. I only got through half but I brought it home so I can enjoy it for the next two days. It was so good I felt like it was sent from heaven above. This was EASILY the best food I have ever eaten in Pennsylvania. I can't recommend Shakey Jakes enough. Can't wait to go there again in 3 days when I finally finish my large Boli.

Editing my 5-star review i previously posted.

I have been a customer of Shakey Jake's since I was a kid. We never had any complaints and was always good seeing the same employees over the years with great food and customer service.

With that being said, we will not be going back to this establishment with the new ownership. It took a lot for me to write this negative review, but it is absolutely the worst service every single time we have ordered over the past few months.

The new owner, I presume, has no clue how to run a business and is always all over the place when I come in for our order. For months he kept handing us poorly handwritten pieces of paper for their loyalty program because they were always out of cards (staples is 2 doors down).

Our order has been messed up multiple times and there are always other customers in at the same time with messed up/missed orders. Today the customer ahead of us had a completely missed pizza. The prices have also significantly been increased.

Each time I go in some seemingly ridiculous change is being made to the restaurant. First it was blinding lights and now the paint job looks like it was done by a child.

The owner is outwardly rude to his staff and this last time picking up an order I now only see one of the original staff members. I could really go on with the terrible experiences we have had.

It is so sad to see a well loved small business I have been going to for over 25 years run to the ground. I hope this owner gets a wake up call and starts learning how to run a professional business because there is no excuse for just how poor the service is.

**and, no, I do not personally know the old owners, I just enjoyed their...

I went in tonight for take out ordered a cheese steak with extra cheese and a bacon cheese burger with extra cheese along for meatball sub and fries for the kids When we got home and realized that the cheese steak and bacon burger didn’t seem to have extra cheese nor the normal amount but the meatball had cheese when it was ordered without which is very unusual for this establishment After talking, my Wife decided she wanted to call in just to make them aware of this since we were charged for the cheese and were disappointed with how the subs were made She rings in to speak to a gentleman who ends up passing it to woman who wanted to argue about how much cheese was on the subs even after my wife explained she has been going there since she was 15 years old and has never had an issue( weekly thing when she got her license) we drive 25 minutes just to get shakey jakes and how unusual this was because usually the cheese steaks are delicious and cheesy with a lot more cheese then we received She continued to want to argue and be very rude the worst part of this is my wife wanted to make them aware of this as long time customers, not looking for a refund, wasn’t worth the trip back and we both assumed this wouldn’t happen again We will never return to this establishment again because of this phone call and how rude the lady was I am so disappointed in the customer service my wife received it’s appalling I never could imagine receiving bad customer service since we have never had an...

Since they changed owners it is horrible. The place does not have the same feeling it used to. And they mess up my food every time. I am not going back. The new owner does not care at all. The last time they messed up the food he refused to make it properly because he didn't want to threw the food away. So he offered 10.00 off next time. This place is a joke now. So let me update.. the food has gotten better.. and the service is ok depending on who is working.

I am done with this place, the owner has no customer service skills. While I'm waiting on my food he is on the phone with a customer. He had it on speaker and the man was calling about an issue he had. I guess his delivery was super late. Instead of apologizing and handling the issue he has a bunch of excuses. It was the driver's fault. They were busy and can not guarantee fast delivery. Anyway the point is the way he handles his customers. Like we don't matter. Now my issue is we ordered 2 orders. Mine was simple a cheesesteak with meat and cheese only and sauce on the side. There was no cheese on it st all. And very cold. The other cheesesteak had a very small piece of cheese on it. But covered with sauce so it was so soggy. I'm not calling to complain because I can not deal with that man for 12 dollars. I will just choose to find a better spot...
