Workers were very kind. Pastries were okay. The food items were much better than the pastries. We ordered quite a few items- a scone, chocolate almond croissant, regular croissant, danish, raspberry almond danish, banana bread, ham egg croissant, tuna sandwich, and the ham and cheese sandwich on a baguette.
The croissants, and danishes were not great. The croissants were very dense and not light and airy like you would expect. The raspberry almond danish was nothing like the photos. In the order online photos it appears to have a lot of filling/streusel on top. When we saw it in person there were only a few raspberries in the center, but we ordered it anyway thinking the inside would be different. We were very let down with the denseness of the pastry as well as the lack of raspberries and almond cream. The chocolate almond croissant was also much too dense. No one wanted to eat either after trying them.
We enjoyed the cream cheese danish and banana bread the most. The scone was good too but not something I would be eager to order again. As for the food items, we enjoyed everything we ordered. We loved the olive tapenade on the tuna niçoise. It had a good amount of tuna on it despite it looking like it didn’t. It was very filling. The baguette for the ham and cheese sandwich was wonderful, and the ham and egg croissant was good.
Overall, it was an okay visit. Half good, half a let down. Not something I would be eager to come back to taste, but maybe the other...
Read moreStopped in between our winery tours to butter up our stomachs. I’ve been to their NYC location once, but it didn’t leave a huge impression. The OG location had more varieties, so I was excited to give them a try.
The bakery itself was quite small, so we had to wait in line for about 15 minutes before placing our order. The outdoor patio area was nice, and we were able to snag a table without much wait. We ordered the signature almond croissant, maple bacon danish, and the cream cheese danish.
The almond croissant was good, but by today’s standards, it felt a bit plain. Almond croissant game is pretty intense these days, and maybe this was the gold standard when Chef Keller opened in 2003. Not bad, just not worth the wait, unless you’re stopping by the original Yountville location for nostalgia’s sake.
Maple bacon danish was visually interesting. A full strip of bacon wrapped within Danish layers. But since both were served at room temp, the bacon texture felt oddly limp and out of place. More novelty than satisfying.
The cream cheese danish was my favorite of the three. Outer layers had a great crunch, and the cream cheese filling had the right balance. Just enough sugar to lift without...
Read moreBouchon Bakery is great place to stop by if you're in wine country and want a relatively quick (i.e., not necessarily sit-down) bite. I came here with friends the last two times I was in Napa area, but I have been here a few more times before that. I say "relatively quickly" because service is quite fast once you're in, but there has always been a line whenever I went, and there isn't really a way to view the menu/offerings until you're inside.
That being said, everything I've had here has been fab. My favourites are the ham and cheese baguette (tip: get it toasted!) and their "oreos". The macarons are also good with a variety of flavours to choose from. Drink-wise, I usually just go with a standard coffee so nothing to write home about there IMO.
There isn't space to sit indoors, but there is a small area outdoors with tables and benches; I find it easier to take the food elsewhere (like a park) for more space and fewer people, or to just take it home. If your food is "portable", it's also nice to stroll around Yountville and explore the town (and shops, once your...
