Cơm Tấm Ba Lang serves up broken rice with charcoal-grilled pork ribs. The menu isn’t fancy—pork, eggs, morning glory, a few sides—but what it lacks in sophistication it makes up for in authenticity and price. Two pieces of meat will fill a light eater; bigger appetites will need double. Portions are modest, the rice a little dry, and yes, the morning glory can be salty. But the pork is smoky, slightly sweet, perfectly seasoned, and grilled over coals with just the right char.
The space is simple. The first floor is hot, with no air conditioning, just fans doing their best. The second floor has AC, barely enough to escape the tropical heat, but it’s a relief for those who don’t want to melt mid-meal. Staff are kind and fast, and the owners are a cheerful husband-and-wife team who make you feel welcome even if you can’t speak a word of Vietnamese.
Drinks aren’t always cold, ice melts fast, and hygiene is local standard—not perfect, but not alarming. It’s a tourist magnet now, thanks to YouTube and Google Maps, but mostly it’s a neighbourhood spot where locals pick up takeout or settle in for a quick lunch. Spring rolls are serviceable, soups are simple, but the core dish—pork rib rice—is consistent, cheap, and genuinely satisfying. The sweet-and-salty sauce on the table elevates every bite, and yes, the morning glory is worth ordering.

Specializing in cơm tấm—broken rice typically served with grilled meats, pickled vegetables, and a side of fish sauce—this place delivers both quality and value.
The grilled pork chop is the star of the show: tender, juicy, and charred just right for that authentic smoky flavor. Their egg meatloaf (chả trứng) and shredded pork skin (bì) are also solid choices, full of texture and traditional taste. The broken rice itself is fluffy and perfectly cooked, soaking up the savory, slightly sweet nước mắm like a sponge.
Portions are generous, prices are affordable, and the service is fast and friendly. The dining area is clean and casual, great for a quick lunch or dinner. Locals frequent this spot, which is always a good sign.

the things worth mentioning, they're a bit too heavy on the MSG which really takes away from the light crisp flavor of all of their items. a true shame that would kick them up to a strong 4. really would be a very great meal as they don't go heavy on sugars like the Com Tam restaurants in America, in the touristy or fancy spots tend to lean on.
other thing worth noting, if you arrive later in the night, they'll simply put your meal together from all precooked items from earlier that evening. so you'll be lacking that hot meal. another reason, likely this is due to Da Nang being so hot, locals may actually prefer food that is room temperature so I wouldn't necessarily say it's...
