I met Jeremy today while at Jeremy's for breakfast. Honestly, from Google maps I didn't really know what kind of place this was. I just knew they had cinnamon rolls and that's what I wanted.
Ordered breakfast plate, chocolate chip cookie, cinnamon roll, and a 400g thing of mint chocolate chip ice cream.
Because almost everything was delicious let's start with the weakest thing: the potatoes. I don't know how to describe what was wrong with them but like... Under cooked but seemingly cooked though. The insides were... Gummy... I cut one in half and crushed it and I would expect the potato to crush it just bulged. If I had to guess, the potatoes were parboiled but then not finished off properly. They were seasoned really well and didn't need any salt. It was more of a texture thing than a flavour thing.
However, that's it. A small side item was good tasting just a bit off on texture.
Bacon - perfectly crispy but still a little floppy. My favourite doneness.
French Toast - Fluffy inside nice egg crust. The syrup could use some pizzaz but I'm Canadian, I know I'm not getting real syrup so whatever.
Cinnamon roll - Warmed up with icing on top. Perfect amount of common even around the outside the inner circle a cinnamon-goofest as would be expected. Eat your heart out Cinnabon.
Chocolate Chip Cookie - I'm pretty sure they use browned butter to make it. It had that toasted caramel maillard reaction taste that usually comes from browning your butter. Chocolate melted when entering the mouth but keeping structural integrity in the plate. The cookie was soft but with a great structure.
I took a nibble of the cookie then meant to take a picture of it... But then I kept eating it. 🤔
Finally Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream - I love a good mint chip ice cream. This one was really lovely, I knew it was going to be when it wasn't toxic green. Jeremy gave me what felt like a word of caution that he uses fresh ingredients so it might be more earthy than I'm used to and I was worried it was going to be weird tasting but it's actually really really good. This would make a fantastic milkshake. We polished it off as lunch.
I know I'm not the first person to write about Jeremy's but I think they are more popular for their baked goods than their breakfast but I thought their breakfast was amazing AND I saw they had a chicken fried steak sandwich... I've been really wanting chicken fried steak and so I'll be back for that.
Note: I met Jeremy because he was there and took a lot of interest in telling us about his store but I didn't mention writing a review nor did I tell him I was coming. I really love an owner who comes out and talks to his customers. Especially since he's been presumably doing this...
Read moreJeremy’s Kitchen’s brand new, first-ever physical location is a dazzler. Situated at an easy-to-find address in a lovely neighborhood close to Son Tra, An Thuong, and the City Center of Da Nang, the space is bright, welcoming, and comfortable. On our visit just a few days after the soft opening, they were playing a great background music mix of contemporary swing that was at just the right decibel level to add ambiance without interfering with conversations. We were greeted immediately and throughout our service the staff were attentive and sweet. Although all of Jeremy's famously fabulous sweet treats are available onsite in addition to their Facebook ordering options, on this visit we ordered chicken and waffles, a hot chocolate, and a Cà phê sữa đá Saigon style. The cà phê sữa đá was (in our opinion) perfectly proportioned in regard to quality coffee, condensed milk, and ice. The hot chocolate was a delightful surprise by having less sweetness and more rich sophisticated flavor thanks to its ingredient of real, dark cocoa. But the star of the visit was Jeremy’s Kitchen’s chicken and waffles and accompaniments. Two crispy battered strips of chicken are served atop two fluffy waffles served alongside homemade coleslaw and two dipping/drizzling sauces. The chicken was sensationally delicious. Crispy on the outside (without being greasy) with a pleasant peppery zing and the inside cooked to tender perfection. The waffles were softer than those we’re accustomed to from America, but that made them even easier to eat and provided a nice texture contract to the chicken. Harmonious contrasts continued with the side sauces: one bringing a little heat and zip with kimchi and the other made from real maple syrup extract. And the coleslaw (made without mayonnaise (yay!)) brought fresh crispness and just the right amount of heat. Were we sad when our plates and cups were empty? Indeed. Will we be back soon and recommend you visit as well?...
Read moreI stumbled across the clam chowder while looking through the Grab app, and decided to give Jeremy's Kitchen a try. Big Mistake.
The clam chowder had peas, carrots, and chowder, but had little clam meat and no clam flavor. Clam chowder should have clam meat, clam juice, heavy cream, savory herbs, like sage, thyme, or basil, a bay leaf, and a few potato cubes to thicken it when needed. But, at no time should clam chowder not taste like clam.
Similarly, the sausage patty breakfast burrito was a major let-down. To begin, the tortilla needs to be supple enough to wrap the contents tightly, without ripping. Jeremy's homemade tortilla was grainy, doughy, and too stiff, so the burrito was barely wrapped when it arrived. The tortilla just tastes like flour-almost like they attempted crepes, failed, and decided it would be a great burrito.
Lastly, the Monster cookie looks like a standard M&M cookie in the app. It, too was somehow still wet and doughy while simultaneously burned. And it has some type of seeds in it, which completely tanked any positive reviews I could have left.
The only positive for me was knowing the meal was finished and that I'll never have to endure such a viscious assault on my tastebuds or debit card again; if negative stars were an option, my experience would have rated around a -7 stars. Save your money and find...
