We made a same day reservation for 2 on a Monday night knowing the omakase is a set menu by the 2 Viet chefs. There was no wow factor throughout the meal. The biggest disappointment was the boiled rice with wagyu beef and sweet corn. 4 slices of what is supposed to be wagyu beef served on top of a bed of probably the blandest rice I have had in my life, accompanied by the saddest miso soup. I couldn't help but share my feedback with our waitress. She was apologetic, as was her manager, but there was no intention or interest to make things right. Could I give them another chance and try the omakase by the head chef? Theoretically, maybe, but tonight's experience left such a bad impression and with the abundant and better choices that I have in Hanoi, it would be an easy no.
If Omakase is about trusting the chef then we have trusted the wrong chef tonight, unfortunately.
Update: After I left my review, the F&B Manager from the restaurant reached out to me directly and offered his most sincere apologies. He did what I wish the other had done which was asking me thoughtful questions to understand where I was coming from, why I reacted the way I did, and made me feel like I was genuinely listened to (There is a reason he is in his position, I suppose!). He personally came to our apartment to gift us a freshly made cheesecake, an item touted as not to be missed on their menu, as a token of apology. We spent a few more minutes talking about the whole experience. After several conversations, my gut feelings tell me that he truly cared about my experience and tried to right the ship to the best of his abilities. What I hope would come out of this unfortunate event i is that they would take my feedback to heart and possibly re-evaluate the omakase set menu so that they can offer a higher...
Read moreTonight we had a painful experience. I booked a reservation over a month ago to enjoy the Omakase dinner. When we were brought to our table in an empty restaurant I asked to sit at the sushi bar. The host said “that is for omakase”. I said perfect. Then we were told it was not available tonight. So we were seated in a back corner table., The worst table in the restaurant. My wife kept me from making more of it than I should. We then ordered our appetizers and sushi. We asked to start with the appetizers first. They brought everything at once. The $22 lobster miso soup was horrible. The sushi was average at best, the service was fine except for the lost in translation. After dinner we walked out and noticed the sushi bar had four people seated at a 20 seat sushi bar. I asked the host why were we not allowed seat those people were seated at 6:30. I said “impossible” We had a 8pm reservation and no one was there! I never write reviews but this experience was...
Read moreI came here for dinner and unfortunately left a bit disappointed! The value for money for the set menu was great (especially compared to similar experiences in Europe), however there were some aspects which could be improved upon. Although the scallop and steamed egg were fantastic, the meal as a whole felt rushed, with courses being brought out before we had finished the previous round, so the table was cluttered and we had to ask for them to be slowed down. The hot appetisers were not in fact hot, and the sashimi was very very cold, suggesting those courses had been prepared in advance a little. Similarly the salmon was lukewarm and far overcooked to my taste. The beef course was tasty, the flavours in the steamed egg dish were a particular highlight, and the portions generous. Still a decent experience but not...
