I had the opportunity to experience an 8-course meal at Le Beaulieu restaurant located in the Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi. This was my interesting time exploring the sophistication of French cuisine, with each dish offering a unique and refined taste, from the lightness of the mushroom mousse to the rich flavors of the barbecued duck leg with Béarnaise sauce.
However, what surprised me was the service experience. Despite being in a well-known and prestigious hotel, the continuous movement of the staff around the dining area made me feel quite distracted. There were moments when I wanted to focus on enjoying my meal but was interrupted by the frequent passing of staff on the walkways. Additionally, the nearby bar created some unpleasant noises, like machine sounds, bill printer, clinking dishes, and footsteps, which detracted from the calm and serene atmosphere that a fine dining experience should provide. Furthermore, some guests were speaking quite loudly, further diminishing the dining ambiance.
That said, I appreciated the attentiveness of the restaurant manager, who listened to my feedback about the less-than-perfect experience. They showed thoughtfulness and professionalism by waiving the charges for the drinks that accompanied our meal, a gesture that reflected their care for customer satisfaction. This act helped me feel more valued and hopeful that they will continue to improve the environment to provide a better experience in the future.
Overall, the meal was a delightful introduction to French cuisine, but I believe the service atmosphere needs more consideration and improvement to match the elegance that the menu...
Read moreHigh class food for Western prices. Came here to celebrate a friend’s bday. Got a la carte items.
Lobster bisque (950k) - 3/5 — creamy, standard.
Hamachi crudo (750k) - 3/5 — interesting, moderately flavorful. I’d personally prefer sashimi or sardines to it.
Beef rossini (3.1 trieu!) - 2/5 — foie gras and vinegary tastes did not blend into the steak, which I found not as tender. Worst value dish I’ve ever ordered. This one dish is much pricier than even a A5 Wagyu buffet in Los Angeles.
Water, Thanon (310k VND per bottle) - 1/5 — unnotable, not worth.
Crepes Suzette (380k) - 4/5 — live demonstration of the creation process with sugar, orange juice, cream, crepes. despite not a dessert person, I found this the most memorable and worthwhile.
Total bill (+15% cumulative fees).
+1 for presentation, +1 for service. Amazing service, but food unremarkable and unmemorable besides the pricing.
Update: the next morning, I and another friend had indigestion. Ruled out everything except this place. Downgrade review from 3 star. 7M...
Read moreI cannot relay how disappointing this restaurant is. The setting is lovely but the food and service is beyond substandard. We arrived and were seated and perused the menu. Their are only 2 vegetarian options and as my partner is veggie she plumped for the risotto only to be told they didn't have any (it was 7pm). The only other veg option was an egg dish. The waiter offer to bring another menu from a sister restaurant that was Vietnamese cuisine (not what you come to a French restaurant for). She plumped for a pesto pasta dish that I honestly could have made at home. Before our starters the waiter and manager brought over a ham and seafood entree?!?! Any good service staff would have realised how ridiculous this was to give to someone who just informed you they were a vegetarian. The wine is overpriced beyond belief as well. Ultimately there are far better options in Hanoi. The onion soup got the one star as it...
