absolutely immaculate coffee experience !!
it’s a small intimate coffee bar where you get to see the baristas brewing the coffee for u. there’s both vietnamese and western style of brewing available.
we got the traditional vietnamese black coffee and it was rly good. rly strong, reminded me of espresso. this was one of the pay as u wish price so we went ahead with the price we paid at another coffee specialty shop. we also got the salt coffee which is rly special bc they sprinkle salt and sugar around the rim.
what was rly cool though was also their coffee machine. instead of a standard espresso machine for the western style of brewing, they have a manual one and u get to adjust the strength of ur coffee bc they will pass u the cup of espresso for u to pour into
also the beans r rly cheap compared to touristy shops. 200g of their in house roasted robusta was 140k and they had an ongoing promotion of buy 3 get 1 free which was a pleasant surprise as we were planning to get three alr and we left with four :)
and the employees are super nice!! we were telling one of them that we had a similar phin coffee set up at home but the drip speed was either too fast or too slow because we didn’t know what size to grind to so she ground some extra beans for us to refer to when we get back home so that we can grind ours to the appropriate size
note: they are CASHLESS so we...
Read moreI was recommended this place, and I can say I was blown away. When I came inside, it seemed to be fully packed. I was going to sit in the Hanoian sun, but the barista told me there was a small space left at the end of the bar.
A very intimate, noir and almost cyberpunk experience when it comes to aesthetics. You almost feel cut off from the world if it weren't for the street's unending hustle and bustle.
You get a glass of water, a stone brick on which the menu is written on (or a small cardboard), and then the experience can begin once you've made your choice.
Phin gets a bad reputation outside of Vietnam mainly because it is used with robusta. Too strong, too intense... What phin is not is "not enough". Which is why I was prepared to have this being my only coffee of the day. Almost every step of the way, the barista explained in English what she was going to do. I smelled the fine robusta before and after grinding, and was made part of the preparation through this.
The coffee was outstanding. At the end, I was told I could pay whatever I wanted, and gave 65k.
Definitely, a...

We rushed to the coffee bar right after our Hanoi day tour had ended at 5pm. The coffee bar closes at 6.30pm. We were tired and could do with a cuppa. We were greeted by their barista Nam and his friendly smile. Nam invited us to try their drip coffee.
I had their coffee with cacao…it was one of the best!
Nam explained the brewing/dripping process and their coffee beans. We were then introduced to their founder Tu. We had a good time chatting with Tu, Nam and the rest of the friendly team.
Tu and his team are very passionate about coffee. They know their coffee!
At Refined, they serve their award winning fine grade coffee beans and coffee. Their Green Bean coffee won 2nd prize in Vietnam while the owner barista Tu won 3rd prize in the national competition.
As the saying goes,“Do it with passion and success will follow”.
There is no price on the menu. The price of the coffee is the value you decide it is worth for.
We bought 10 packets of their coffee beans. Would had bought more if baggage...
