2-star (Overrated restaurant)
3.5-star (Services) Most of the staffs cannot speak English but they will give us a menu in English and we can point at the food and ask where is it in the menu. Staffs is patient and after a little pointing, I got what I wanted. Unlike what some tourists have complaints, I find the staffs willing to serve and help but maybe, needs more patient due to language barrier... I ask for soap when they dun have it in the toilet and immediately, the lady boss helps me gets it.
2-star (Food) To be fair, it may be the restaurant operating style but alot of food were prepare early and taste bland as they are meant to be eaten piping hot... To be fair to the restaurant, it may have taste better if I arrived earlier at 8am or so... maybe,...?
2-star (Bánh cuốn, Tôm, Thịt): VND$38,000 Steam roll rice roll with very generous portion of shrimp amd meat. They have herbs leaves by the side. Some tourists claimed that its not provided, maybe, because they order other varieties as they seem to have more than one kind of Bánh cuốn on their menu... Sauce and chilli are at every table and customers may customised to their preference... When I have them in Hanoi, they were prepare on the goes as customers are non-stop, absolute delicious then...
1-star (Chả): VND$12,000 2 pieces of pork sausage prepare in different methods, to be eaten with the herbs and sauces... Some tourists complaints not being served with Chả, probably because of mis-comms as they are a seperate menu item at Bánh Cuốn Hải Nam...?
2-star (Bánh Bèo, Tôm, Thịt): VND$44,000 Thin rice cake with meat, western soup bread crumbs, dry orange coconut filling and cut leaves... Taste sweet and special but not delicious...
4-star (Vietnamese milk coffee): VND$25,000 U never gets it wrong by ordering Vietnamese coffee in Vietnam, everywhere else in the world taste weird, except, maybe, Cambodia due to being part of Vietnam control in the past... Crush ice laden with generous of condensed milk atop the thick aromatic...
Read moreAverage food, unscrupulous business. I ordered a plate of shrimp and pork rolls which was pretty good. Still, nothing was out of the world, and the portion was rather small. Then came the bill. I was surprised to be charged 14k extra (my order was 40k). Turns out, it was the chả plate that they handed me along with the rolls, which left me under the impression that it was already included in the price. When I questioned it they told me it was a side dish so I had to pay for it separately, which struck me as odd as Bánh cuốn (steamed rice rolls) is usually served along with chả. What bugged me the most was their shrewd act in handing me a side dish without letting me know upfront that it wasn't included in the price. Also, if you need to park your bike, be ready to be charged...
Read moreOur favorite banh cuon place! Every time we visit HCMC, we have to make a stop here. We always get the banh cuon though I’m surprised to see only 2 rolls were on the plate. The last time we ate here was 4 years ago and we thought more came on the plate. That’s okay because it was still very delicious. Just how we remembered it. It also comes with a couple pieces of chả lụa and bean sprouts with lettuce. The banh beo is also the best we’ve ever tasted. Our first time trying. It was 4 thick pieces with a nice topping of ground pork, baby shrimp, black fungus, onions, dried shrimp powder and fried bread croutons. I can’t believe we’ve never ordered this before! The banh beo has such a good coconut flavor, we love it! We come to Vietnam for the yummy food, not for...
