Sushi Hokkaido Sachi in Pasteur Street looks new inside . It's incredibly well presented and nicely appointed . The staff are very deliberate, unhurried, and professional, in their actions, speech, and service, exactly as one would expect in Japan . The parking is underground immediately next door to the restaurant frontage . We had booked a private room which again is authentic to Japanese tradition without the intolerable inconvenience of having to sit on a flat floor . See my picture . The service was excellent for us . We had no time limitations so it suited our situation . Japanese restaurants are not suited to the crash, bang, wallop, pay, and leave, twenty three minute Viet style of eating which some people seem to expect . The food was excellent although why my guests decided to go Japanese when, like a lot of Viet people, they will not eat raw food is beyond me . If you like hot pot then go to a hot pot restaurant . The sushi was the best I've ever tasted . I would go there purely for the sushi . The menu is vast, the salads look good, and although Ice cream was not expected, I couldn't resist a parfait and I wasn't disappointed . I had a pineapple drink which was far bigger than I'd expected and was also far better than I expected . Be prepared to spend at least half a million per person . More if you're really hungry . I thoroughly recommend this location . Parking may be a problem when they're fully booked at night . The other locations could be of varying service I just don't know . I recommend this one, I've not...
Read moreI’ve been to about 2 other Sushi Hokkaido’s. And this spot so far, bested the others in the staff department. The employees here are very good at what they do. From the simplest task of putting your shoes in the stands, to being there and taking your order when you need. This establishment has a heavy price tag, but I’d let that go, since good help is definitely hard to find in Vietnam.
Now onto the main topic. The food! Obviously we all know that sushi when made right, tastes absolutely enticing. However, if cut wrong, pressed wrong, or left out too long. And you’ve got yourself some nasty tasting fish. The sushi here, I’d give it a 3 out of 5 points. Due to the lack of portion vs the price. Now, I know this part of town is expensive to rent, but 45k for 2 pieces of salmon nigiri is a bit much. I myself love nigiri, it’s the exceptional balance of vinegar rice and fish fillet. Here, the rice overshadows the fish, because of the amount. So I can’t bring myself to give this place 5 stars.
In the end, the drinks were delicious, and the staff is polite. However, food quality is mediocre for the price you pay. I’m not a stickler about price, but I must admit, the amounts here are quite...
Read moreReal sushi fans: be warned. Lower your expectations much lower to eat here or only if you're desperate for sushi.
I've been fortunate to have eaten sushi across North America, Singapore, Hong Kong and other Asian countries. I didn't have high expectations since Vietnam isn't well known for sushi 😁 We reserved a table a day ahead but still had to wait 15 minutes on arrival. The ambience was fabulous. Servers were okay but as far as food was concerned it was comparable to food stall at the local shopping mall. Shrimp were overly cooked or it may have been re-cooked. Most sashimi were unavailable. Only the farmed fish and eel dishes were available. You would think they could have told us that only 50% of the menu items were available when we reserved a table. I had Alaska farmed salmon rolls. The sushi rice wasn't very good. Tasted more like regular Vietnamese rice for dinner at home. Eel dish for my companion was so-so. Couldn't eat it anymore after two bites and left it. The smell was a bit off. We've eaten several Vietnamese eel dishes that were much better smelling and tastes much better. We won't be back. Not worth half the price...
