Basically, we weren't dissatisfied with the food, atmosphere of the place wasn't bad either, but our opinion changed radically when it came to the payment! When we arrived and ordered, the waiter brought some kind of appetizer to the table (we didn't order it) and a tray with a napkin on it (we didn't ask for it either). He put it on the table without a word, and since no extra money was charged for these additional little things in two months of travel, it didn't even occur to us that they would be invoiced here. My friend tasted the appetizer wrapped in a banana leaf with a small bite, but because she didn't like it, she didn't finish it and used a napkin. We were surprised when we found these items listed on the invoice during payment. It's already ridiculous that you now have to pay for a napkin, but there would have been nothing wrong with it if they announced in advance that you have to pay for these extra little things too! I wasn't sorry for the money from them, because these weren't really big items, I just can't get along with the scam! When we wanted to talk to the owner (according to the employees, it was his idea that they were obliged to invoice all of this) they said he wasn't there, so in the end we had to pay! Probably every day tons of customers fall victim to this unfair profiteering! And once again: I didn't regret the money from them, I even used to leave a tip, but I can't stand the unethical business management model! What will be the next stupid thing: I have to pay for the use of cutlery too?

Found this place after reading some good reviews. Place was located about 5 mins walk from my hotel. Very unassuming and you are likely to miss it if you're not looking out for it. The restaurant is located on the 1st floor and has a pretty nice ambience. I took the table on the balcony (there are only 2 tables) with a nice street view. The lady boss was very attentive and installed a standing fan so that I can eat in comfort. Food is quite good and very reasonably priced. The only slight drawback was one of the waitresses who was managing my table couldn't speak and understand English. However, she was quick to use Google translate and everything worked out well. If you are looking for authentic Vietnamese food in a nice restaurant without having to pay exorbitant price, this is the place to go. I highly recommend you try it out.

Xóm Chợ Cũ is a delightful Vietnamese restaurant conveniently located in the heart of District 1, within walking distance to major attractions. The ambiance is inviting, with a cozy interior and a beautiful open-air balcony overlooking the lively street scene. The environment is pleasant and comfortable, offering a respite from the city's hustle and bustle. The food showcases authentic Vietnamese flavors and is generally decent, though not exceptional. The service is average, with staff speaking limited English. However, the restaurant provides free WiFi, making it an ideal spot for a casual working lunch or catching up with friends over a meal. Overall, Xóm Chợ Cũ offers a charming dining experience in a charming setting, allowing you to savor traditional Vietnamese cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere.
