Currently sitting in the dining room, but had to type up my review before I left. (Long read alert, TL/DR: go there for upscale dining on only slightly upscale pricing)
I was in a mood to eat a little bit more, and something a little bit fancier tonight, so I opted to come here and get two entrees and a dessert for myself.
First, I started off with the Tuna Nicoise Salad, and man was that a good opener. It came out in a large clam shell and the presentation on it was stunning. The tuna was cooked perfect, pink in the center, nice sear on the outside. The dressing and the toppings on the salad were great and balanced.
I then got the ostrich with wine sauce, which was highly recommended, and it did not disappoint. The ostrich was cooked phenomenally, slightly mid rare, very tender and moist. The red wine reduction was well balanced, savory and rich.
Then for desert, I got the chocolate salami. Now, I didn't know what to expect, but wanted to go out on a limb and try the stranger of the few dessert options and man was it AWESOME. I don't know how to describe it without making it sound weird, it was very good quality chocolate, rolled and compressed with crispy sweet baked somethings inside of it, rolled into a log and sliced like salami and served with a simple chocolate sauce. While the sauce might have been a bit simple, that's ok because the salami itself came up where the sauce fell short.

Both were good; not the best I've ever had, but not at all disappointing and a welcome change from the typical fare offered by the average restaurant around town. Service was perfect, attentive but not overbearing. I recommend La Velvet to anyone with Western tastes and/or an appreciation for quiet,...

I ordered the tuna with strawberry sauce. I wanted to try it and see how the flavours worked together. It wasn’t for me, the strawberry sauce was lacking in any flavour or sweetness and didn’t enhance the dish at all.
Perhaps if the ingredients were reimagined into a relish it might work better.
I like a restaurant that isn’t afraid to try something different.
I will visit again and try some other dishes on the menu.
