I recently had the chance to try Lac Canh Beef Restaurant in Nha Trang, a local institution known for its legendary grilled beef. Here's my honest take:
The Good: Flavorful Beef: The star of the show, the beef, was truly delicious. Marinated in a secret blend of spices and cooked over charcoal, it was tender, juicy, and packed with savory goodness. I especially loved the slight smoky char from the grill. Local Experience: Lac Canh is not a fancy restaurant by any means. It's a simple, open-air space with plastic tables and chairs, but that's part of its charm. It felt authentic and allowed me to experience Nha Trang's local dining scene. Affordable Prices: The prices at Lac Canh are incredibly reasonable, especially considering the quality and portion sizes. It's a great option for budget-conscious travelers.
The Not-So-Good: Smoke Show: Be prepared for a smoky experience! The open-air grilling creates a fair amount of smoke that can permeate your clothes and hair. If you're sensitive to smoke, this might not be the best place for you. Limited Menu: While the beef is fantastic, the rest of the menu is fairly limited. There are a few other dishes like rice, vegetables, and spring rolls, but don't expect a wide variety. Hit or Miss Service: The service at Lac Canh can be a bit hit or miss. When I went, it was efficient but not overly friendly.
Overall: Despite the smoke and limited menu, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Lac Canh. The delicious and affordable beef, combined with the local atmosphere, makes it a worthwhile visit for any adventurous eater. Just be prepared for a...
Read moreFamous in Nha Trang among the locals as one of the best restaurants in town. Lots of foreigners visit too. Menu in Vietnamese English and Russian. I went with Vietnamese friends and the Vietnamese menu has a few more options but they are pretty close, also prices are same unlike some places where the Vietnamese menu has lower prices. The specialty is beef and it was very good. BBQ yourself over charcoal at your table.
We also had squid, also crab in rice noodles, and a couple orders of grilled bread... all excellent. Prices are low, food was great. Two locations across the street from each other. Opens at 4pm but really gets hopping after dark. Unfortunately when it’s busy it kinda fills up with smoke but it’s still nice. Eat upstairs and you get both street view and river view.
If you’re adventurous they also have baked cow eyeball. I’m not that brave. But everything we did have was delicious... I will go back and try some of the other stuff like the...

Details: Bò Nướng Lạc Cảnh was recommended on a travel blog as a “must do” in Nha Trang. Having enjoyed BBQ style meals in Vietnam before, I was keen to try, and I wasn’t disappointed. Simple but delicious cook-it-yourself food (with a Tieng Viet, English and Russian menu) in a typical Vietnamese environment. We hadn’t eaten all day so arrived early - which was good because we arrived well before a bus load of loud, white shoe wearing tourists. The service was ok, a rat or two ran past, but the experience was second to none. The extensive menu provides for vegetarians, and there is beef, fish, chicken, goat and even frog on the menu. Some reading this will won’t think it’s their thing, which is fine - there are lots of amazing Anglo-inspired restaurants in town - others will appreciate the experience...but go before or after...
