Positive: Compared to other Indian restaurants in Phu Quoc, food is good. That's the only, only positive.
Negatives:
Super duper expensive. Charges are 7-star equivalent. A butter roti costs Rs. 140.
Incapable of handling rush. They locks the restaurant door in the middle of a service. So if you are waiting in the queue to order or receive food, forget aboit it and move to somewhere else as they will eventually ask you to do so even if you have a toddler or baby with you. The excuse - our kitchen is unable to handle so much food request. And mind you, this is same at every Maharaja (Grand World & Duong Dong).
Finally you get the food. Forget asking for onions. This is chargeable and overwhelmingly costly.
The biggest scam - Everywhere they have put up signs saying their card machine is not working. How come the same sign be in all places. Now the game is, they charge Vat @8% so if the figure comes around 388.800VND, they round it off to 390.000VND and gives you the rest. Which means on every order they are looting you of extra dongs. This is a thug affair. Insist on getting even the last bit of your change.
Last but not the least, they take 2 orders one time. Pause the line untill the first 2 orders are done and then again take 2 orders and repeats. So if you are in a queue and behind 5 people. Your time will come in approx 1 hour for placing order. So avoid going there after 6 PM.
I recently visited Phu Quoc and trust you me, I had to get Indian food for my 18 month old baby. They made me wait for 1 hour and said we...
Read moreAs my husband and I were very careful where we ate in Vietnam, we usually googled nearby restaurants and aimed at ones with a good google score. We first tried Maharaja Lounge in Grand World Phu Quoc and had a good experience, so when we saw another one in Phu Quoc near our hotel, we figured it was a safe option. Unfortunately, it wasn't. One of the rice dishes tasted weird to me (a bit cheesy) and I had very little of it. I just assumed I didn't like the taste. My husband finished it all off and we went back to the hotel. I started feeling bloated but just thought it was from eating too late (21h). The next morning I woke up to hearing my husband being violently sick and having diarrhea. We both got temperature and couldn't leave the room, spent our day in bed and bathroom. Luckily, we were with 15 other people in our group and they were able to help us with meds, water and food. We are 100% sure that it was the dinner at Maharaja Lounge that made us both sick as all 17 of us ate IDENTICAL food all day and all drinks were bottled, up until the dinner where we were free to eat what we wanted. Nobody else got sick. This was a day before leaving Vietnam and we were lucky to have been able to recover before our flight back, otherwise we would have ended up in...
Read moreI love a curry, and I consider myself quite well versed in the curry game (being from England and have been to India twice). I saw the reviews for this place and I was hopeful it would be good. Firstly, the inside is really basic and nothing special. In addition, upon arrival they let you know that you have to order at the counter yourself, which is fine, but there seems to be lots of workers stood around? It seems like a weird small step they could remove to make their business feel a bit more like a restaurant than a fast food place ? It was just a bit weird to me.
I ordered two samosas, a Chana Masala and rice. The Chana Masala was meant to be medium spice, but it had none at all (maybe they saw a white and didn’t want to burn their face off, so fair enough). But actually the flavour just also wasn’t as potent as I would like, it almost felt a bit watered down. The samosas weren’t bad, but again - lacked a bit of punch, flavour or even just some character. Lastly, relative to Vietnamese prices, it was also not cheap - it costed 500k for two of us, which for me is extortionate here, especially when you consider the standard of the food.
The best way to describe this place is a very average Indian. In England, this would be classed as bad (where I’m...
