I was just at Runam with my children at 9:50 PM. Before that, we had watched the show 'Kiss of the Sea' and then wanted to grab a small bite at RuNam. We entered the restaurant. There was a free table, so we sat down, but no one served us. It seemed like everyone was already off-duty and no one wanted to work any extra. When I then addressed the staff in Vietnamese, asking if they were still open, a staff member confirmed that they were. I also mentioned that my children had been standing in front of the cake display for 5 minutes already and no one was able to serve us. Still, no service was provided. I said we were leaving, and there was no apology. This is the worst service I've experienced on Phu Quoc."

"Your description of last night is not accurate. When I arrived, it had already stopped raining. There were people sitting in the restaurant, but it wasn’t so crowded that the staff couldn’t keep track of things. Additionally, it wasn’t so full that I couldn’t find a table for five people. It simply felt like the staff didn’t want to serve anymore. Instead, they were cleaning the machines and preparing everything for closing. We were standing right in front of the glass display where the cakes were showcased. My daughter even told me that she made eye contact with a server who then continued to ignore her to keep cleaning the machines. When I asked if the place was still open and if we could still get something, the question was answered with 'yes,' but no one actually approached us. That’s when I said, 'We’re leaving now if we’re not going to receive service.' We then left the restaurant, and I informed the staff at the door that no service was provided, and I...
Read moreDO NOT COME TO RUNAM!! I came in a party of 4 for dinner and had multiple unpleasant surprises. After we placed our order, they mixed up our dishes multiple times. When we were served the vegan fried vermicelli we actually ordered, the noodles were very undercooked and pretty much inedible. We told a server about this but he kept insisting that they were ‘special vietnamese rice noodles’ which were supposed to taste hard. When asked the specific type of noodles, he showed us typical vermicelli rice noodles which you can find in any other dish. After some talking and him ‘checking in the kitchen’, he offered to replace the noodles and give us 2 slices of cake for compensation. He then brought the half-eaten noodles back to the kitchen. After a long wait, he brought us only 1 slice of cake, saying his manager didn’t allow him to give us 2 (which we were fine with). However, the real kicker here is we NEVER RECEIVED OUR REPLACEMENT NOODLES. We asked the same server about it and he insisted that since there was ‘so little left on the plate’ that they didn’t feel the need for a replacement, saying we had a misunderstanding. We were pretty dumbfounded at this point so we asked for the noodles to be taken off the bill. He was taken aback and even tried to argue with us, but eventually let up. The rest of the food was underwhelming for its price and took forever to arrive. This was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve...
Read moreDisappointing Experience at Runam Cafe in Phú Quốc
We recently dined at Runam Cafe in Phú Quốc, and unfortunately, the experience was far from satisfactory. We ordered steak cubes and Bột Chiên, and both dishes left much to be desired. Shockingly, the prices were higher than what we’d pay for similar dishes in Australia, with the Bột Chiên priced at $15 AUD and the steak close to $40 AUD (excluding taxes and additional charges).
The Bột Chiên lacked any crunch and was disappointing in both texture and flavor. To make matters worse, I ended up feeling unwell and even vomited after returning to our hotel. My partner left half of his steak uneaten because it was overly chewy, and the staff didn’t even bother to ask how he preferred it cooked—something you’d expect for such a premium price.
It’s sad to see how the quality at this chain has declined. This experience was a stark reminder of the challenges with dining outside resort areas in Phú Quốc. Sadly, I feel I made a mistake leaving the resort, where dining is far more reliable and enjoyable.
Final Thoughts: Avoid Runam Cafe—it’s overpriced and underwhelming. In fact, I’d caution against dining out in Phú Quốc in general. This “ghost town” offers little to justify venturing beyond the comfort of...
