Sea Shack — Restaurant in Phú Quốc

The worst experience ever in a consider high-class restaurant ( or is it?). The food was terrible. We ordered the seafood platter which was claimed that it was only prepared and served upon order, and we ended up with a RE-HEATed one. The prawns were overcooked and had turned dry. The squid/octopus was cold. The rest of the dish was warm, which cannot convince anyone that they had just been grilled. We complained to one of the staff and were told that this would be passed to the kitchen. We received no response to our complaint in the end.

The service was very bad compared to the price. First they brough us wrong food: fried rice while we ordered fish and chips. Second, I made the order of the seafood platter but then wanted to delay the order a little bit first since wanted to wait for my wife to check with her but they said they haf already prepared and that it couldnt be cancelled (though only 1 or 2 minutes), which is fine but then we ended up with a RE-HEAT one. We asked the staff and they still claimed it a fresh cooked dish but as mentioned above, they gave no response to our complaint. Third, some welcome snack was served after most of out ordered food had been brought to the table, we were left waited for our food with no welcome snack until later.

The Sea Shack is a really nice setting in a very nice resort (the Intercontinental). Unfortunately the food was not very good-- quality was what you would expect from almost any resort, but not a 5-star resort like this or at this price. I ordered nasi goreng which was completely bland-- no heat at all and generally overcooked. Appetizers were unremarkable. Service was really poor. Food was delivered in whatever order-- we got a main before any appetizers and a then the rest of the mains were delivered over the course of several minutes. At least one drink wasn't served until after all the food had been delivered. Canned goods were delivered warm, albeit with a glass of ice. The atmosphere is great! The live music and the beach setting are really nice. The service was just okay, with drinks (including water) served after food had already been brought out and dishes being served in random order.

Not so nice: getting food poisoning and having to stay close to a bathroom for the past two days. I suspect it was probably the salmon salad that was not prepared safely and made me sick. Seeing one of the workers at the restaurant barely rinse their hands after using the bathroom the next day was further confirmation that they don't take sanitation seriously. You'd think that a five star resort would be more strict about food safety but...
