There are so many hotels in Sa Pa - it's hard to know which one to book. So when I read an article in Travel and Leisure's Asia publication naming this hotel as "one of the best", I booked it. DONT be BAMBOOZLED like I was! T&L has never been to this hotel. While the rooms photograph well, it's all paint on a pig because the actual substance is missing. Having travelled widely through Asia and stayed at many of the T&L recommended hotels in the past, I can emphatically say this hotel should not be on ANY "best of" list anywhere. It's a solid 2 star hotel, maybe 3 if you add in the heartfelt service from the front desk staff. The building and location itself is nondescript - on the busy road to Sapa, with lorries honking and revving, motorcycles zooming, and no view at all from the featured balconies. The room has a heavy scent of air freshener with an underlying moldy tinge, and if you open the windows to try to air it out the fumes from the trucks and traffic are overwhelming. Bathroom is tiny - I'm petite, and could barely use the facilities. The lounge/breakfast area is basic, as is the breakfast offerings (think convenience store level). They also pushed a transport option from Hanoi (Sapa Eco Limo) which was the worst transport I took, of many, in Vietnam. Staff try to be helpful with their limited english, but are not trained in hospitality and are out of their depth with the international traveller. Payment is requested in cash, even though I made the booking via Booking.com. Sightseeing tours I requested were not done and I ended up cobbling together several from local sources myself. Overall the worst of the 5 hotels I experienced in North Vietnam.

positives: 1. in a quieter part of town; a short walk to the city centre, fantastic eateries literally next door to the hotel (good morning view and andee). however this walk may not be for everyone given how narrow this heavily trafficked road is. 2. common areas and room are very clean. extremely comfortable beds and great a/c and heating in the rooms and the bathroom is well stocked with toiletries. 3. adequate breakfast with both western and local food options (can’t say it’s fantastic though). 4. friendly smiley staff who greet you warmly and are always willing to address any concerns or requests. negatives: 1. the shower pressure is very weak and the water is lukewarm at best, in my room which is uncomfortable when coming back after a day of activities and it’s cold outside. very disappointing when other reviews have praised this aspect. 2. the door to the room is hollow/not thick enough and if other guests chat outside the corridor or return late, it can be very noisy. overall, i have given it 5* as it is value for money given the competitive room rates that i had paid. but if you are looking for luxury, this is not, just to manage expectations. i also suggest one area for improvement being helping the staff improve their English (or pronunciation) as it is quite difficult to understand them sometimes.

This place is SUPERB. I work in the travel and hospitality industry and hand on heart, this is 5 star service, in 5 star surrounds. The attention to detail is phenomenal and it seems like they have thought of everything to make you feel not only extremely welcome and comfortable, but also so well minded and pay you great personal attention. You basically will never want to leave! I don't want to tell you all the little niceties in advance as that is for you to discover yourselves, but honestly, just stay here. We've been traveling for 4+ months and it's far and away the nicest place we've stayed. In fact, it's one of the nicest places I've ever stayed, and it's excellent value as well. Wonderful staff and owners, BEAUTIFUL decor, dream-like super comfortable beds. It really is the ideal place to relax. A home from home. The food is also excellent so do stay for dinner also! AND you can refill your water bottle for free... LOVE that they are environmentally aware too. This place is a dream. Don't bother reading any more reviews. Trust me. Just go here and enjoy yourselves. You won't regret it... and you'll probably extend your stay!:)

First arrived the receptionist seem demanding me to asap hand my passport and ask me to open my luggage to give my detail of my passport , which I explained to her I will bring it down later after I check in the room. Yet she said she will be waiting for me in outside my room while insist me to hand over my passport after 7 hours sitting down on car from hanoi. This person is absurd and unprofessional at all. No welcoming smile and ask how the trip been. We booked this hotel cause of good review. We actually get free night room from hotel de la coupole M gallery yet We choose this one because of good review and turn out to be disappointed. Room is feel moldy and toilet blind is mold also .You can hear voices in the hallway when people entering their room. To add on at the end of 2 nights thanks god we finally over here. The passport demanding receptionist suddenly pretend to be nice and she said to me to give her a good review and she mention to put her name as ruby do not forget she said. One word to say to about this behaviour, unbelievable!! This is an example for all hotel to get a bad review this is the one hiring girl like her destroy the reputation you have been built on. If the room itself is not up||to my standard I can understand but this kinda behaviour in the hotel industry which service sincerely is a rule of thumb. I did not expect top notch service like Marriot or Intercontinental, but this kind of attitude is...
