Fortress of Justinian or simply known as Tirana Castle is a castle in Tirana, Albania. Its history dates back before 1300 and is a remnant from the Byzantine-era. The fortress is the place where the main east-west and north-south roads crossed, and formed the heart of Tirana. The current fortification has three known towers and it is undergoing a process of restoration, for touristic purposes. Inside the fortified walls of the former fortress, there are many buildings that can be visited, including restaurants, hotels, and cultural institutions. About all that is left of the fortress above ground is a 6-metre (20 ft) high Ottoman-era wall, covered in vines. The recently uncovered wall foundations were incorporated into the pedestrian Murat Toptani Street, while a mosaic commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Albania’s Independence was unveiled near the Albanian Parliament. The Castle of Tirana was declared a monument of culture of first category on 10 June 1973 and the new tracks of walls of Tirana Castle were declared a cultural monument on 15 May 2008.

This review is about 1 week Visit to Albania in the month of October 2021. Generally, the flight was pleasant, and the ticket was cheap and all that is due to the pandemic and the world just started to open. We stayed in the city of Tirana, the capital of Albania, It was long flight, with no service at all with no entertainment on board. Just few passengers and we are all with Masks. On arrival the weather was nice, some days were cold, others were with clear sunny skies. Make sure to have right comfy shoes, clothes and small backpack going with you all the time. Hotels are Cheap and very much affordable with minimal services and comfort, as we are on the go, that should be fine. Crime. Public security is generally good, particularly in Tirana, and Albanians are very hospitable to visitors. Crime and violence do occur in some areas. Food is bit challenging, but its as per your budget and taste. Most of the places can be visited in 30 minutes or less. Castle of Krujë is one must go to place, the Castle withstood three massive sieges from the Turks respectively in 1450, 1466 and 1467. The Kruja Bazaar is famous for being one of the oldest in Albania, also the Skanderbeg square. Churches, Wine Houses, fine dining, happy hours and all what you desire. Where every you go, first option is cash

Tirana Castle is an interesting historical site, but there’s not a whole lot to see in terms of the original structure. What remains is mostly the outer walls, and the castle itself has been integrated into a more modern shopping and dining area. While the atmosphere is pleasant, and the small cafes and artisan shops are a nice touch, it feels more like a commercial space than a historical one. It’s worth a quick stop if you’re in the area, but don’t expect a grand castle experience. Still, the blend of old and new is charming in its own way, and it’s a good place to take a leisurely stroll.
