Do not live in Davey lodge! There is no air-con in the room and heater doesn’t work well in winter. I am living in a studio long room. It’s pretty cold in winter at night. The room inspection is very annoying. They required that no bowl or pan on the bench in kitchen even I owned the whole kitchen by myself, no oil on the ventilator, and nothing in the room for be “not messy”. However the oven in the common room is always very dirty and smoky when you use it. And the tap sometimes broken in the common room. Once the chill water tap was broken, I thought I should tell the staff in reception. It was at 5:30pm, and they will finish at 6pm. I even didn’t ask them to fix the tap, just tell them. The Asian lady with a black glasses working there even didn’t listen to me and told me rudely “ I have finished work, and you can come back tomorrow.” I tried to tell her it was the tap problem in the common room, but maybe for my skin colour is not white enough, she stopped me rudely again and left me there. sign BTW they still charge the money for using common room. Recently the smoke in Canberra was horrible, but do you know where was the worst? Davey lodge. Because they never close the windows in common area and there is no instructions to tell residents how to close these windows. Where are the staffs in the lodge? Home for ANU closed. BTW even all the residents in Davey can’t enjoy the air-con, reception still have the air-con only for them maybe 5ish people and the temperature is very low in summer. If you want to live in Davey, you can enjoy it on the coach besides the reception. Finally to the day to leave. They charge until 31st January but they sent you a message to tell you they will clean the room to empty on 30th or 31st January. They never leave the day for cleaning but always ask you leave earlier. Talking about the cleaning, their cleaning is the grossest but most expensive one. Since I did see the cleaning trolley still in the room when my friends moved in and the fridge is still very dirty. Yeah they still charge you a lot for the ridiculous cleaning. Actually still a lot of very sweet and nice people. SR and RA are very friendly and nice. But nightmare starts with all the terrible rules and some...
Read morewe stayed for a period of five months at Davy Lodge. The apartment was in a pitiful state when we arrived, really very dirty, yet a cleaning fee of $70 au is levied for the apartments to be cleaned. In addition, the apartment was flooded because there was a heating problem in the apartment above ours and it deteriorated all our food, but no support from the establishment. Then our windows were blocked as soon as we arrived, and we reported it from the start. But it took a three-month delay before it was taken care of. Despite several requests. We had access to our windows only after three months inside the apartment. Management service is pitiful for exchange students. The property requires residents to pay up to one month after we leave the apartment. While technically there is a specific service that allows you to make a request to stop paying when you leave but even with all the elements together they refuse. Davy lodge and the worst residence, of all around. The washing machines available are expensive and do not wash clothes very well. There are thefts in the room where we're supposed to dry our laundry. I could go on bashing this establishment for a long time, but it's not worth running away from at all costs. In view of the price that an apartment costs here, I think that one star out of five is far too generous. To flee, to flee,...
Read moreLived here for a year in a 3 share and I had a room facing inside the corridor. Was the worst student accomodation I've ever been to so I decided to move out this year. I remember I would always get sick due to no air flow in my room, otherwise I would have to leave my window open for everyone walking past to stare at me which was very uncomfortable. And adding to that, there is no airconditioning so summer is not fun at all.
Another thing that heavily bothered me was that suicide rates are way too high at Unilodges and there is atleast 1 to 2 incidents annually. However if you go to any other student accomodations on campus there are no cases of students taking their own lives and this really says something about Unilodge as a whole. And I really hope I wasn't put into a room where these incidents happened.
I heavily recommend any new students looking for accomodation on campus to consider moving into any halls such as B&G, Wright, Bruce etc. as its easier to make friends and you can actually enjoy the...
