Mörk Chocolate 🍫
Mörk Chocolate was created in 2012 using the same approach taken by specialty coffee-makers; with respect for the traceability, quality and unique origin of ingredients all the way from bean to cup.
Their beautiful chocolate brew house is located in Errol Street in North Melbourne. From the outside it has the traditional Melbourne look. The interior design is very sleek with bright wood, stone flooring, and dried flower arrangements. Stylish lighting is hanging from the high ceiling and the counter is made of tiles to the front and a dark big stone plate on top: authentic, minimalistic and assuring that the products can shine.
I tried three different chocolate drinks:
Junior Dark [50%]: Rich dark cocoa balances with the toffee like sweetness of unrefined coconut sugar. The perfect introduction to the world of dark drinking chocolate. Dark Milk & Salt [65%]: Rich cacao powder, dark milk chocolate, coconut blossom sugar and a pinch of river salt make for a smooth and creamy hot chocolate experience with dark caramel notes, hints of malt and honey, and a salty tingle. Summer Edition: Raspberry & Thai, made with vibrant flavours of real raspberries and Thai lime.
What a treat 💣! Furthermore I enjoyed a roasted marshmallow (that was a special highlight) and a cinnamon bun along with my hot chocolate tasting flight. I cannot describe the sensory experience in words - out of this world 🗺!
It is great to see that certain brands carefully source their ingredients and focus on...
Read moreThe cafe is a small trip out from the CDB but actually was an interesting stop. The cafe has some dining areas and cabinet food but they specialise in chocolate. The hot chocolate menu is based on the darkness of the chocolate, from 50% to 100%. They also have other items which they class as signature or adventure. I ended up trying the cacao chocolate flight as well as a lemon myrtle, honey shortbread. The shortbread was interesting, sweet and an interesting flavour. It was a bit hard though as I lost some trying to cut the biscuit. The flight consisted of three glasses containg different chocolate components, a 70% dark hot chocolate, a cacao cold brew and a cacao ice cream. I loved the ice cream and hated the cold brew. I found the cold brew very medicinal and bitter. The hot chocolate was ok. It got more interesting when I played around with the flavours, trying the different things in different order. It was quite fun changing the flavour of each item by trying the other items beforehand. I quite enjoyed the trip but think the chocolate was a bit too dark for my tastes. They also have a small table where you could buy the chocolate and other kits so that you could...
Read moreMörk , stop dictating my sugar and sweet pallette !!
I ordered a $9 mocha. And after a few sips, I realised it was mega strong. All good there. But then I wanted a little bit of sugar, the staff told me I'm not allowed to be given it because of the trace amount of coconut sugar added to the 70% cacao hot choc powder. I even asked and clarified that there is not sugar on the premises. The staff guy nodded.
But then a lady there ordered a latte and was asked how many sugars she wanted ? I was confused. Turns out that they had sugar all along.
I then had another conversation with the staff guy, he said that it's only reserved for coffee ordering customers.
I explained that I prefer having my beverage on the sweeter side. Not diabetically sweet. Just a bit more.
Given my mocha had 2 shots of espresso, I asked, why couldn't I have some sugar? He said that it's their policy and they reserve the right and he's been instructed NOT to give sugar. But yet they serve sweet pastry items !! Why this double standard ? Why the militant approach ? After people have paid, and after people have had a sip sip, they should be given the right to...
