Peppers Beach Club Port Douglas — Attraction in Port Douglas

The hotel advertised buffet breakfast included in the stay that was actually a limited a la carte menu ($30 per meal with machine coffee offered and luke warm juice that you had to get yourself). However, the hotels website was advertising a buffet breakfast. When questioned on this, the hotel advised that the buffet ceased a month or so prior due to a buffet using more water than a la carte option (?). The hotel then offered a credit of $20 pp per day to be used at the hotel, that could only be used for the remainder of the stay at their restaurant, and the remaining breakfasts removed. Bait and switch anyone??. The breakfast options offered were grossly overpriced, with choices of Nasi Goreng and corn fritters at $30 worth. On one morning, a dish that was supposed to include crispy kale did not arrive with the crispy kale, and it was a visibly annoyed chef that then put some in a bowl. On tasting the dish, it was also riddled with chilli, a detail left off the menu until the first bite. More 2 star than the 5 star this hotel purports to be. On the last morning, with the thought of facing another lacklustre breakfast, we went to the Sheraton down the road, who did not have an issue with water (?) that served a great buffet breakfast. Peppers need to have a look at the Sheraton for guidance on what 5 stars look like. The room that was booked was a 2 bedroom deluxe suite with a Plunge pool. We arrived at night for the first night, but next morning on inspection of the pool it was green, with a dirty floor and sides and leaves in it. A call to reception resulted in more chlorine being added, that took until the late afternoon to finish. The pool water was clear but was still green on the sides, and a good scoop required. The main hotel pool was oddly warm (32 degrees celsius) and not refreshing and had mould visible in spots. We checked out of Mantra Portsea after a wonderful 4 night stay and decided to give Peppers a try. Well our expectations we distroyed immediately on arrival at our room. We booked at Spa Suite for 4 nights. Very unimpressed with the quality of this so called '5 star' resort, especially for the price. I am unsure of the other rooms types, however avoid the spa suite at all costs - especially if its 131. I have never complained, or had to ask for a new room before and I felt very uncomfortable doing so, however this room was a gross dungeon. It smelt so strongly of mould I felt like I couldn't breath, the doors were mouldy and dusty and the wood in the bathroom chipped and laminate peeling from water damage. The small outdoor area with the spas wood floor was stained black and disgusting and it is completely exposed to the neighbouring hotels windows looking in. The worst part is the air-conditioner did not work and on inspection had mould and dust in them as if they haven't been clean. Gross. Don't breath in too deeply. Management moved rooms and we had a nice little dungeon with a view of the caravan park this time - 5 star. If you claim to be 5 star all the rooms should be 5 star not just some.

Other guests (usually with a horde of screaming kids) head to the pool when it opens and chuck there neatly folded towel on a sunlounge then head off to breaky - weirdos. I'd suggest management chuck these idiots trash in the pool so that a gal can go for a swim and a dry off in the sun before having to head back to the mould dungeon.

My highest recommendation is to NOT book a spa suite. Get a 1 bedroom suite at Mantra Portsea instead. It is cheaper and better.

We stayed for three nights in January at the Peppers Beach Club. This time of year is the low season for Port Douglas and we got a good rate on the room. We really enjoyed out stay.||There is free parking for guests and the location is good as it is a flat walk into the town of Port Douglas with all of the shops and restaurants, including a full supermarket.||The hotel is modern and fresh. It is called a 'beach club'' but it is not a large style resort that the name might imply. Instead it is two blocks of rooms and apartments on either side of a pool that is made to look like a lagoon. You can see from the pictures the layout of the hotel Although the hotel was nice - it was smaller than we expected and meant that many of the facilities that come with a five star rating were missing. ||We had no complaints about our room - it was clean and exactly as described and all of the features you would expect. The bed was comfortable and the soundproofing was good.||There was only one restaurant at the hotel and this also doubled as the poolside bar. The breakfast served at this restaurant was high quality but the options were a bit limited reflecting the scale of the hotel. The menu was the same for lunch and dinner and was a bit basic - it was fine for a casual poolside lunch with some drinks but I wouldn't really recommend it for dinner.||The gym was a real let down. It was clearly designed by someone who has never used a gym. It had a few pieces of cardio equipment, a lateral pull-down machine and some weights that would be more suited as paper weights on a desk rather than in a gym for exercise. ||On the whole, we enjoyed our stay.
