the first time visit to Rotto and unfortunately I had a pretty unpleasant experience at the rotto's visitor centre. I went together with my wife n relatives altogether 10 pax stayed over there for 2 days and 1 night. we arrived over there 815 am n visited the centre around 830. we were told that we must present ID(passport) and credit card at the check-in time. I told the lady called Laurel that I had been in Oz for over 7 yrs and I had been to most parts of WA and never needed to present my passport. In a shocking manner, she abruptly refused to talk to me saying that I was not the one who booked the accommodation. my poor wife even printed out and brought all the confirmation letter/paperwork. She just ignored it. But finally she accepted my wife's overseas driving licence as an identification which in fact is very weird because no other places in Oz would accept the overseas licence as a proof of age or identification. Moreover, my cousin got a terrible sea sickness due to big swells that morning. When my wife and myself just tried to talk to her on behalf of my cousin in the hope that we could either check-in the room at that time or hire any vacant room, we were not let to finish our say but completely thrown off by saying 'no room is available now and you guys need to wait to be contacted'. Another lady in the same office who sold us bus tickets was also not very friendly either. She was like 'pay ur money, get ur tickets n f* off'. Definitely not a good vibes in the centre, but hostility and shocking customer service were there. Not sure it is public or private owned. Whatever it is, management should do something about it because I won't go back there again any longer if I have to suck up this kind of experience again like the first thing in the morning of your island trip. Just to make a fair point, all the other staff and volunteers in the island such as bus-drivers, cafe n restaurants' staff, information booth's volunteers, etc were really awesome, and of...
Read moreHere you will find an IGA, boutique ladies store, bakery, ice cream, cafe, subway and restaurant. In the arvo there are plenty of sick quokkas. I feel rage when I see people pat & feed them. These semi wild quokkas lives are halved by consumption of himan food & catch human diseases. Tourists forget quokkas carry salmonella and other which can impact human health. Quokkas are super dooper cute! Seagulls around the settlement are super cheeky. They will grab food in your hand you are putting to your mouth. Beware. Quokkas are active late arvo & evening normally. In November there are babies around. Please do not touch or feed them.
5 points for quokkas 1 point for human interaction with quokkas and birds 5 points for IGA 3 points for bakery 1 point for an upmarket boutique ( dresses around $400). This store is not needed.
In summer I think a few food chains...
Read moreA compact and we'll served centre for all you will need on Rottnest Island. The Settlement has a well stocked grocery and liquor store, a fine bakery, in addition to a good variety of places to eat serving all budgets. The central bike and flipper hire and the Visitors Centre are found there too. There are a couple of ok beaches, though others on the island are more picturesque and private.
Of course it has the majority of the accommodation on the island, and is closest to the ferry terminal.
It is also the place most of the island's quokkas seem to congregate. They are to be seen hopping down the main drag, under shady fig trees, are reasonably cooperative for selfies, and constantly attempting to get...
