Scarborough Beach is a place that holds a special place in my heart, not only for its natural beauty but for a truly unforgettable wildlife encounter I had during a recent visit. Picture this: it was a tranquil morning, the sun rising slowly over the calm sea, casting a warm golden hue on the soft, sandy shore. The air was crisp with a hint of salt, and the cries of seagulls echoed gently in the background.

As I walked along the water's edge, savouring the peaceful atmosphere, I was suddenly captivated by an unexpected and somewhat unsettling sight: a lone seagull near a weathered driftwood log, pecking at the motionless form of another seagull lying nearby. It was a stark and poignant reminder of the harsh realities of survival in the natural world, playing out against the backdrop of this serene coastal haven.

The seagull engaged in the act of feeding exhibited a focused and methodical approach. At first, it delicately plucked at the outer feathers, pulling them away in small, precise movements. Each pluck seemed deliberate, revealing patches of soft, downy plumage beneath. The larger bird's beak, normally associated with scavenging scraps from the beach, now served as a tool of consumption, probing and tearing at the seagull's remains.

Moving closer, I observed how the seagull carefully navigated the task of feeding, alternating between pecking at the exposed flesh and tugging at the tougher sinews. Its movements were swift yet deliberate, as if driven by an innate understanding of the necessity to secure sustenance in an environment where resources fluctuate unpredictably.

As the feeding continued, the seagull's demeanour shifted subtly. Initially assertive and focused, it now displayed a cautious awareness, periodically glancing around with sharp, vigilant eyes. Each movement was calculated, with brief pauses to assess any potential threats or interruptions from other nearby wildlife or beachgoers.

The seagull's feeding behaviour revealed a deep-seated instinct for survival, emphasizing the stark contrast between the serene beauty of Scarborough Beach and the raw, unfiltered reality of nature's circle of life. Despite the initial shock of witnessing such a scene, I couldn't help but admire the bird's adaptability and resilience, a testament to the enduring spirit of wildlife in adapting to its surroundings.

Reflecting on this experience, I gained a newfound appreciation for the complexities of nature and the delicate balance that exists between life and death in the coastal ecosystem. Scarborough Beach, beyond its scenic vistas and tranquil ambiance, offers a profound opportunity to witness nature in its rawest form, providing visitors with insights that linger long after they've left its shores.

If you're seeking a beach experience that not only captivates the senses but also challenges perceptions and deepens understanding of the natural world, Scarborough Beach promises moments of both awe and introspection, where every encounter with wildlife serves as a poignant reminder of the intricate web of life that unfolds along its pristine coastline.

I will never understand...

Scarborough Beach is one of the most vibrant and beautiful beaches you can visit, especially if you’re looking for a mix of natural beauty and a lively atmosphere right within the city. The beach itself is wide, clean, and perfect for swimming, sunbathing, or just relaxing on the sand. The waves are great for surfers, and there’s usually a nice breeze that keeps the area feeling fresh even on warmer days.

What really makes Scarborough Beach stand out is everything around it. The surrounding precinct is full of energy, with a great mix of trendy cafes, restaurants, food trucks, and bars – so there’s always somewhere to grab a coffee, ice cream, or a full meal, whether you’re in beachwear or dressed for a night out. There are also plenty of seating areas, grassy spaces, and playgrounds, making it family-friendly as well.

Evenings here are especially magical. The sunsets over the Indian Ocean are absolutely stunning – the kind that makes you want to just sit and take it all in. At night, the area lights up and the beachfront often hosts markets, live music, or events, adding to the charm.

Overall, Scarborough Beach is not just a beach – it’s a destination. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful sunset, an energetic beach day, or a place to hang out with friends over great food, this spot has it all. It’s easy to spend an entire day here, and even easier to come back again and again. Highly recommended for locals and...

Had a makeover. That finally works. Something for everyone. Beach has a great vibe. Great community spirit. Facilities are excellent. Numerous choices for eating. Including open air food vans and Nick nacs in summer on a Thursday night. Saturday night otherwise.

Heaps of tourists. Of course still one of Perth's best surf beaches. What's not to like? Check the wind forecast as low before you go there. If your on a budget. Buy food from the nearby local Coles supermarket and eat it in the park.😉

Large Skate bowl. And walls. Plenty of BBQs Climbing walls. Ampitheatre. Basketball ring Viewing hill. Good toilets. Outdoor showers Drinking fountains. Suntanning terraces. Walking paths Great bus service Including dedicated coastal bus/tram. Swimming pool. Very relaxed vibe. Excellent life saving service. Usually a DJ or dancing around sunset at...

The recent redevelopment of the foreshore and surrounding areas are amazing. Now featuring a host of amenities for locals and tourists including the Amphitheater, Skateboard Park, Swimming Pool, Basketball Court, new green areas, better public toilets/showers and a large playground plus much more. Scarborough Beach is one of Australia's most beautiful beaches. Clean and patrolled by the amazing "SLS" it's also one of Australia's safest, however due to the strong "rips" I encourage everyone to swim between the flags and do not swim at un-patrolled beaches. Public transport is the best method of reaching Scarborough during holidays and the summer due to limited parking. Remember to be sun smart and as always have fun.

Great beach! Lots of grass areas for games, yoga, reading, whatever. Many outdoor showers, lots of shops nearby for a nice breakfast, lunch, or dinner! So much space that it doesn’t seem to get over crowded. Everyone I’ve met has been very friendly. Amphitheatre that is covered but from the wind coming off the ocean expect to still get a little wet from the rain. There is a local heated pool right next to the beach that is affordable! Sometimes there is little events with pop up stands and food carts/trucks! A great area to visit when in Perth. Oh yeah be sure to check the coles close by too for affordable snacks for the beach!
