To be honest I am so disappointed with the quality of the goat meat these days. I used to buy fresh goat meat from them and I kept going to them cause the price was reasonable and fresh. And then one day I ordered goat ribs and I could see the guy taking them and went to the back with them. He came back and told me he had to clean the ribs because they had lots of hair but that wasn’t true. I asked him if they were fresh he said yeah but I could smell rotten ribs. He asked me if I was having the same day and I said no am keeping in the freezer but he convinced me to have them the same day so I got suspicious. He gave me the ribs for free and then he cut another ribs on the side so I can pay . I left the free ribs in the counter because I could smell they weren’t eatable. I got home and opened the goat ribs I payed but they weren’t fresh either. I went back to the shop few weeks later and got goat curry and went home. I opened them and they smelled rotten. Cause I remembered one of the butchers went to the back and goat curry while I could see there was fresh goat curry displayed on the front, I got suspicious. The recent video of "halal" meat being transported alongside pork has really upset me. I have not been able to have beef or lamb since I saw this video. I now have doubts about the halal certification authorities. They will readily hand out a halal certificate to anyone who pays them the money without due diligence or any on going checks and balances. This was one instance that came to light; I can't even imagine what went un-noticed, and how long this practice continued. Further more, there's no proof that this was a one off incident. Of course the business will say it was. I acknowledge that this video was probably leaked by a competitor to defame Ali Supermarket, but at the same time I have no guarantee that anyone else in the industry observes halal standards at all; and hence my utter disgust and mistrust in the halal certification authorities. If Ali super market or the halal meat industry want to redeem themselves, they have to provide more transparency in their supply chain, and most of all, remove that ugly banner which says "no photography" in the butcher section! I am quite happy with the meat I get however customer service has turned really bad lately. A few staff that were there before aren’t there now but they would always give me what I asked for even if it meant going to the back and getting more. Today was the worse service ever. I asked for 4 kg scotch fillet and was giving 2.6kg. I told them that I needed 4 kg they said can’t get. I asked if I can come later if it was convenient for them. They told me to come after 7:00pm. I told them my husband will pick it. They said no problem and even on my way out I said to them not to forget. When my husband went, nothing was ready and he was told there isn’t any scotch fillet. He told them he has come from far just because they told me they will keep it ready. They said to give them time. When I opened the packet at home, it surely was a different cut of meat.
