Unhygienic & Poor Service!
I had a one-night reservation at Abbey's 'The Green House.' Upon checking in at 4.30pm, our first encounter with the property was the strong foul odor in both the kitchen and master bedroom. We tried airing out the rooms by opening the windows, but the smell persisted.
After having dinner at Stanley Hotel Bistro and returning to the house at 8.30pm, the unpleasant odor was still lingering. To make matters worse, a power outage affected the entire town of Stanley before we even had the chance to take a shower.
We promptly contacted the hotel's emergency number, which confirmed the outage. We were informed that we could go to Tall Timber's in Smithon, as they were still open. We had to pack our belongings in the dark and drive to Smithon because we had seniors with us who couldn't tolerate the cold.
The following day, when we checked out, we requested a refund. We explained that from the moment we checked in until the power outage, we had only spent 4 hours in the house, with 2 of those hours at the restaurant. However, the lady at the front desk refused our request, citing that the outage affected all businesses and was not their fault. She suggested that we could have skipped showering and gone to bed because they had blankets. We had to explain that we paid for more than just a dark house with beds, pillows, and blankets; we expected to have access to showers, lights, and heaters.
Ultimately, she agreed to refund $200 out of the $410 we had paid. Taking into account that we also had to pay for another hotel in Smithon, our stay at Abbey's 'The Green House' ended up costing us $210 just to store our luggage...
Read moreThe apartment buildings are great, they were generally clean and tidy, but a little more dusting on the window ledges would help first impressions. We had an excellent view across the water, from the sea facing windows. We had No. 8 , which was an upstairs ( again ) suite. The bed was comfortable, the A/C heater worked well as did the TV. However, this is listed as a self catering unit, but the necessities for self catering were strangely missing. We had 2 knives, 2 forks, 1 cheese knife, 2 small bread plates, ( no breakfast bowls ).a corkscrew, a bottle stopper and 2 coffee mugs. No spoons. That's it. No microwave, no toaster, no oven or cooktop. The fridge was in the left side of the wardrobe. I think to call this a self catering unit is really stretching the term "self catering " to its absolute limit. We ended up buying cheap cutlery at the IGA along with some plastic plates.||The bathroom was spotless and large, but it needed to be because it had a large spa bath with overhead shower. I would rather have had cooking facilities other than a spa. There are laundry facilities available on the premises. We ate dinner every night at The Stanley Hotel, which rather defeated the object of...
Read moreThere are various room types at Stanley Village with management conducted from the Stanley Hotel some 600-700 metres away. It's confusing as there are apartments and motel rooms, but the motel rooms are very standard, not particularly clean, and overpriced. Management staff could also be better trained. Problems with our credit card, even though it was prefectly fine. But unforgivable to not be informed that part of the Village was a building site meaning tradies banging away at early hours. Not restful. If we were properly informed, we may have stayed elsewhere. We also broke a glass that we were informed would be replaced. It wasn't, but our room was partially made up - something we didn't request. The Village has a great location (notwithstanding the fishy smell from Herseys next door), but there seems to be a breakdown in communication spoiling the experience. We would also avoid the upstairs rooms. The stairs look uncomfortably steep. Beds are comfortable though, the outlook nice, and the...
