We stayed in the Queen ensure side of this cottage and the only above average thing about it was the location and the view from the verandah and front bay window. Advertising describes the cottage as luxurious and elegant but this misrepresents it. It is not, as claimed "superbly restored". The cottage decor is old, tired and done on the cheap with poor quality fittings. There was an odd, possibly urine smell about the place that required an airing and application of air freshener. It is definitely not elegant. Open fire places are advertised as a feature but the chimneys are blocked up so don't get the idea you'll be snuggling up in front of the fire. There are DVDs supplied but no dvd player ( luxury accommodation would have Netflix). There is an ironing board but no iron. You are requested to wash your dishes before you leave or incur an extra charge but the only basin with a plug in it is in the laundry (luxury accommodation would have a dish washer). The shower is narrow and a large person would have trouble fitting in it. There is one type of tea bag supplied. The basin in the bathroom is stained. The windows in the bedroom opens onto the garage.|Friends stayed at the same time as us in a cabin at the Big 4 caravan park. They had better facilities and paid $60 a night less. If you can live without the view stay atBig 4. If you must have a view and luxury try one of the many other cottages for rent around town.|Two stars for the accommodation plus one...

Read moreWe were fortunate to be able to book Gardenia House for four nights in August. The whole house worked beautifully for us as two couples with separate accomm "wings" and spacious, lovely communal areas in the middle - kitchen, lounge, dining area. The wood burner with wood supplied provided cosiness for our winter stay, but adequate elect heaters were scattered throughout and had been thoughtfully turned on prior to our arrival. This warm welcome was complemented by very comfortable beds and loads of amenities and facilities incl board games, DVD's, Cd's, and reading material. Even in mid-winter we were well fed at very close-by eateries like Herseys (seafood) and Stanley Hotel. Alas no Nut chairlift operating, but the walk to the top was still very invigorating and do-able even by seniors like us. So Stanley is a delight to visit even in the winter with water thundering down Dip Falls and rainbows shining over the Edge of the World (Arthur River), but its even better when staying at the brilliant Gardenia House. Highly...
