House of Austrian History — Attraction in Vienna

Nice museum, a little small, but well done. Also comes with entrance to the Ephesus museum. It wasn’t crowded at all. The woman selling tickets was really rude and impatient though. She took her time to explain things and give an audio guide (which was included in the price) to Austrian visitors. But she was incredibly rude to another visitor who had limited English and wanted to ask basic questions. She also refused to give me an audio guide and just pointed to a sign with a QR code. When people asked about buying tickets she almost seemed to be convincing them not to visit. It is confusing because there are a few museums in the same location, but it’s not very clear at the entrance. More signage at the entrance is needed, not to mention a ticket salesperson who isn’t so unpleasant. The man working upstairs at the info desk was very friendly and helpful. This is a review about the service, not about the facility l and it's content. As we wanted to enter a security guard told us the national library is next door, on remark we w as by to visit Haus der Geschichte Österreichs he pointed out the cashier's office is unstaffed. I pointed out there's web ticket console next to the cashier's office. Anyway, we needed to leave entrance since he explained he's just the security guard and we have to come later. We waited 20min but nobody staffed the office and we left.

My complain is due to the bad service and an empty box office even after 20min waiting. No complain about the security guard, he did his job and...

Verkopft, banal und -wie erwartet- politisch einseitig ist die Präsentation im "Haus der Geschichte Österreich", bei dem man sich sogar das s im Namen gespart hat. Statt ein Museum zur Geschichte Österreichs oder zur Geschichte der Republik zu schaffen, ist es ein Sammelsurium österreichischer Ereignisse der letzten 100 Jahre. Eigentlich braucht es keine 8 Euro Eintritt, um abgedruckte Fotos und Poster zu sehen, die man an anderen Orten schon seit Jahrzehnten sehen konnte. Nur eine kleine Handvoll von Objekte vermitteln den "Hauch der Geschichte", etwa ein antisemitisches Brettspiel, ein Hakenkreuzböller, Figurinen zum Staatsvertrag aus dem Jahr 1955, geschnitzt aus den Korken der dort zum Empfang gereichten Sektflaschen, oder die Drahtschere, mit der Alois Mock 1989 den Eisernen Vorhang durchtrennte. Kein kritisches Wort über den opportunistischen Kanzler Renner, der tausende seiner Landsleute als "deutschsprechende Tschechen" des Landes verwies, kein Wort über die Folteropfer in Südtirol und die bis heute ungesühnten Verbrechen der italienischen Polizei in den 60er Jahren, keine Visualisierung der exilierten Geistesgrössen 1938, kein Bild der verbrannten Synagogen, dafür aber Conchita Wursts Kleid oder die Selbstbeweihräucherung von Anti-Regierungsdemonstrationen. Ein paar Fotos zum Gipfeltreffen Kennedy-Chrustschow, aber kein Wort zu den internationalen Organisationen in Wien und ihren Aufgaben. Zwar wird Hans Kelsens Verfassungsentwurf gezeigt, aber weder werden die demokratischen Institutionen erklärt oder moderne Errungenschaften wie die Abschaffung der Todesstrafe deutlich gemacht. Dafür kann man auf einem Spielautomaten die Bundeshymne und die Europahymne abspielen... Ich bedauere jetzt schon die Schulklassen, die dort durchgeschleift werden, andere Besucher werden sich wohl kaum...
