The Museum Judenplatz in Vienna is a must-visit for anyone interested in the history of the Jewish community in Austria. The museum offers a thought-provoking and insightful look into the lives of Jewish people in Vienna and the surrounding region, from the Middle Ages to the present day. The exhibits are well-curated and offer a wealth of information. The architecture of the building is also noteworthy, as it was built on the site of an ancient synagogue. Overall, a visit to the Museum Judenplatz is a meaningful and educational experience.

Sehr gelungene Dauerausstellung zum jüdischen Leben im mittelalterlichen Wien und gutes Material zum Shoah-Mahnmal. Gut zugänglich gemachte Fundamente der alten Synagogen aus dem 13.—15. Jahrhundert.

This place is really well done. It’s small but packed a huge punch. The quality of the exhibits is incredible and they even considered how to entertain kids in a museum like this. The excavation of the 14th century synagogue and the augmented reality technology was unbelievable. However, I couldn’t access the audio guide for the ruins because my phone had no signal in that part of the museum which is likely common among others.

Austrians still profiting off the Jews

One might have thought that the Austrians had made enough off the Jews after stealing their property during the Holocaust (setting aside minor matters like the transports, the concentration and death camps etc). But no, you would be much mistaken. If there's any chance of turning a profit off some dead Jews, the Austrians are quick to sniff out the opportunity. Hence the 12 euro entrance charge.

Obviously, the Austrians are in no way sincere in their expressions of contrition over what happened before during and after 1938 when Austria was honored by admission into the Third Reich. In fact, Austrians like to style themselves as first victims of the Nazis because, you know, they were the first country swallowed up by you-know-who. This is, of course, not merely a sick joke but an outstanding example of the Big Lie that Joseph Goebbels so proudly pioneered in service of the Fuhrer. There were no shortage of Austrian Nazis, ready, willing and eager, nay enthusiastically eager, to follow his orders. Don't give another penny to the Austrian state which has never said sorry and only knows how to cover for its antecedents ... Looking for an example: Kurt Waldheim, anyone?

Well, I have the most absurd and hilarious tale to tell. I submitted exactly the same review of this Museum titled “Austrians still profiting off the Jews” to TripAdvisor and Google Reviews. I mean, if the Austrians were sincerely sorry the museum would be free for all to enter so that everybody could learn the lessons of Nazi horror. But the Austrians (that means the SPO ruling party) couldn’t resist the opportunity to gouge just a bit more out of the Jews by charging an excessive entrance fee.

Anyway Google respected the right to express the opinion. TripAdvisor did not. Instead it (automatically) submitted my review to Museum Judenplatz and they freaked out! “Silence the Yid”, they cried. No Jew can criticize the great Austrian State etc etc. TripAdvisor say they believe in the “Right to Write”. Hahaha. Another ‘Big Lie’ Goebbels would have been proud of. So TripAdvisor censored the post and deleted it.

Now the naïve reader might think it a little odd that Mudeum Judenplatz, a museum supposedly devoted to exposing the horrors of the Nazi era, should turn out to be a haven for anti-Semites. I did too … initially. But, on reflection, I concluded that it is not strange at all. Actually, it is the logical place for anti-Semites to congregate and fume in concert about the pernicious Jew. Anyone following the news will have learned that the SPO (which hands out jobs including those at the Museum) hired an Israeli political ‘consultant’ to plant anti-Semitic tropes in the Austrian press. Yes, really! That actually happened. Hahaha. Goebbels would be so very, very proud.

Posted to Google and TripAdvisor identically. Let’s see...

Museum Judenplatz Judenplatz is considered a unique place of remembrance: it combines Rachel Whiteread's memorial with the excavations of the medieval synagogue and a museum on medieval Judaism to form a unity of remembrance.

Judenplatz was the centre of Jewish life in Vienna in the Middle Ages. Today, the Judenplatz Museum is a reminder of this. The core of the museum, which is run by the Jewish Museum of the City of Vienna, consists of showrooms on medieval Judaism in Vienna, a virtual tour of 14th century Vienna and the excavations of the medieval synagogue. The religious, cultural and social circumstances of the Viennese Jews in the Middle Ages up to their expulsion and extermination in 1420/21, the so-called "Viennese Gesera", are presented. The foundations of the synagogue destroyed at that time and selected excavation finds can be seen in the underground museum rooms. Temporary exhibitions are held on the...

On October 25, 2000, a double opening took place at Judenplatz: on the one hand, the Museum Judenplatz became accessible to visitors with the excavation of the medieval synagogue. The museum was designed by the team of architects Jabornegg and Palffy, the concept was created by the team of the then Historical Museum of the City of Vienna in cooperation with the Institute for the History of the Jews in Austria. On the other hand, the memorial for the 65,000 murdered Austrian Jews by the British artist Rachel Whiteread, which was erected at the suggestion of Simon Wiesenthal, was unveiled on Judenplatz. In December 2010, ten years after the opening of the Judenplatz Museum, the Jewish Museum Vienna developed a new permanent exhibition on medieval history and adapted the single-storey rooms for permanent temporary...
