My friends and I visited during the week (as we read it tends to be crowded during the weekend) - definitely recommend this way! We had an absolute blast because we didn't expect the visit to be so informative and fun.
The staff welcomed us warmly and explained the importance of proactive participation due to the nature of the museum. This proved out to be true as we spent around an hour and a half exploring different optical illusions and interactive exhibits. Some are well known, but it feels different to see them displayed. Our minds were really tricked on several occasions, which sparked our curiosity to figure out how and why these effects occur (for example the one with reading the color names out loud). There were also a dozen of wooden games/brain puzzles displayed around the museum, which we tried to solve - some of them more successfully then others 😅
The highlights were of course the photo stations were we could goof around and create some memories 😄 We spent a considerable amount of time creating photos in the room that distorted our sizes in hilarious ways. The infinity room was also really interesting as it created a seemingly endless space with a set of mirrors - also great for funny or creative photos! There were instances where our balance and the perception of space was challenged, for example in the rotating tunnel or the tilted room were we could finally pretend to be able to do the Micael Jackson pose! The staff was super friendly and helpful, as they gave us some advice on how to take the most creative shots! 😊
In sum, highly recommended for a day out with friends!! Its a great destination if you are curious to try and learn something new and have fun in the meantime! I am not including a lot of photos as not to spoil the experience, but make sure to take your time to explore and appreciate everything this museum has to offer, because it does...
Read moreI had to go for a class excursion and we nearly spent a full hour there. I’ve had more than enough time to look at every attraction, which I can count the number of the major events on one hand. First things first, they had 4 rooms and made sure not to let any blank surfaces by hanging some pictures of optical illusion you can find anywhere on the internet and probably have already seen on multiple social media websites. You could have visited the Reddit page for r/illusions and saved 8€. The only thing you couldn’t have “experienced” at home were the “special” rooms like the spinning tunnel, that should have made you feel dizzy and not able to walk a straight path. There was also “mirror room”, but it should have been called “mirror walls” instead for all it’s worth. It would have been considerably more engaging if they mirrored all room surfaces, but I guess they neither had the creativity nor budget for that. Besides the optical illusions and activity rooms, there were a few puzzles too. Some were simple, others weren’t. If you’ve got a cool puzzle like the “3D Egg”, you ought to show the solution or people will lose interest and get annoyed. All in all it can be said that this truly was an unforgettable experience -not in a good way- I wouldn’t even recommend to my worst enemy. Thus, I’ll rate this fiasco a 2/5 stars (I felt in a...
Read moreMy girlfriend took me here after reading a blog post. We were pretty excited as it promised to be illusional. But my feeling about the place started already at its doorstep, its basically an office space in one of the classy streets of the center, and when you find their name in the jungle of other nameplates, what expects you inside is definitely not worth the time and the moneys worth. I had a cultural pass that allows people free or reduced entry into museums in vienna, the personnel pretended not to know about its functionality. While trying to educate him on the card while paying the student price of 10€(2€ less then the usual), another employee interrupted pretty arrogantly announcing that it is a private one. The extreme unfriendly reception did not leave a good mark but we went in trying to enjoy the illusions. The entire space has less then 50 exhibits in 4 rooms roughly in an are of 100 sq. m that are overcrowded. Almost a hundred people with school groups creates an annoying traffic. Half of the "illusions" you see, you know from your kids school book or can find them anywhere. And for the remaining ones, it is definitely not worth. We felt being ripped off by some...
