Foundation Frison Horta is the crown Jewel of the Brussels art nouveau scene. In the words of its majestic and marvelous owner, lady Nupur Tron, it is a time capsule from which we can "look through the telescope of the past into the dreams of the future." Tron didn't just uncover in a meticulous devoted restoration the glory of this one of a kind Horta house, down to tracking and buying its original furniture made by the greatest names of the time, as Lalique and Josef Hoffman. She also uncovers the fascination of art nouveau with Indian symbolism, sacred forms, and rich color pallets, an inspiration which like the murals and fresco's Tron uncovered from under layers of paint and years of neglect, is uncovered from under years of colonialism. Through the lens of this connection walking around this living work of art, is a spiritual transformative aesthetic experience. Facing the future, Tron doesn't only enable us to experience the epitome of past traditional craftsmanship, but also a glance to how we can preserve these values in the future. Read moreAs an Art Nouveau lover, discovering this place was a true gem!
I arrived without a proper reservation on the last day of my trip, and the owner kindly accommodated me despite this. However, I strongly recommend booking in advance, as visits are otherwise not possible.
The tour is guided by the owner herself, whose warmth, exceptional passion for Art Nouveau, and profound expertise make the experience unforgettable. Her insights are truly unique, weaving fascinating connections to Indian aesthetics, which greatly influenced Art Nouveau.
As she lives in the house and has personally taken care of its meticulous restoration, not all rooms are open to visitors, as it remains a private residence

A heartfelt thank you to the owner for her generosity and for the special gift. it was the perfect conclusion to an...
Read moreA hidden gem in the heart of the city, walking distance to Brussel's major museums. If the Horta Museum is too out of the way for you, I highly recommend the Fondation Frison Horta as an alternative.
The house is a living time capsule and active restoration project. Not yet a fully finished house museum, but the lack of velvet ropes makes for a more unique and immersive visit. Well worth the price of admission for the private tour and the explanation of all the work being done to redeem the house's original features, and you have the satisfaction of knowing you have contributed to the future of a great architectural monument. There is still plenty to see in terms of original murals, furniture, and...
