Wantany — Restaurant in Brussels

Wantany - Wantan Bar in Sablon is one of my favorite spots in my favorite area of Brussels. Whether it's during a lunch break from work, in the evenings, or on the weekends, I find myself drawn to this cozy and inviting place. The ambiance is incredibly cute and cozy, making it perfect for any time of day.

One of the highlights of Wantany is their soup, especially in the winter. There's nothing quite like warming up with a delicious bowl of soup while strolling through the charming streets of Sablon. The quality of their products is outstanding, and every dish is made with care and attention to detail.

I often bring friends and family here, and everyone leaves satisfied. The staff is consistently super nice and friendly, which adds to the overall positive experience. Their welcoming demeanor makes you feel right at home, whether you're a regular or a first-time visitor.

Wantany is such a special place that I even celebrated my birthday here. The cozy atmosphere and excellent food made it a memorable occasion. One of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in Brussels. We made it very clear when ordering that we were vegetarian. The waitress recommended the veggie nem, assuring us it would be a good choice and different from the spicy veggie wantons. When the dish arrived, it was served with fish sauce — completely inappropriate after we had specifically said we don’t eat meat or fish.

When we politely raised this, instead of apologising or offering a solution, the waitress began shouting at us across the restaurant, arguing that “nem is always served like this.” Not only was this extremely unprofessional and embarrassing, it also showed a total disregard for customers’ dietary requirements and basic respect.

It’s one thing to make a mistake — it’s another to treat customers so badly when they point it out. If you are vegetarian, vegan, or simply expect decent service, I strongly recommend avoiding Wantany. There are plenty of other restaurants in Brussels that actually listen to their customers and treat them...

The concept at Wantany is interesting, especially with the focus on dumplings. The interior is well-designed and creates a pleasant atmosphere, and the service is attentive — staff frequently check in to see if everything is okay.

That said, I found the food lacking in flavor. As someone of Asian background, I appreciate the idea, but when it comes to wantan (wontons), I’d still prefer going to a more authentic Chinese restaurant. The flavors here just didn’t quite meet expectations.

Price-wise, it feels a bit steep for what you get. The quality doesn’t fully justify the cost.

I saw in some reviews that feedback should be given on the spot, but in reality, it’s not always easy or appropriate to express these concerns directly during the meal.
