The Bootjes van Gent boat tour was one of the highlights of my time in Ghent! The ride itself was super smooth, and just the right length of time! We cruised through the canals with incredible views in every direction! So many things to see on both sides- bridges, castles, cool old homes, and so much more! Our guide was fantastic! He was a great balance of fun but also stayed relaxed. He had a great sense of humor and was full of stories that made the history feel alive! He managed to keep the commentary going nonstop without it ever getting too lecture-like, which was greatly appreciated! You could tell he truly loves his job! It started raining on our ride back, and they handed out umbrellas without missing a beat-they definitely were prepared! I was lucky to grab a seat right up front, which really made all the difference. The view was wide open, and floating under the low bridges with the umbrellas was funny to see everyone getting a little nervous to see if they would make it through. If you’re in Ghent, a boat tour is a must! It’s a beautiful way to experience the city from the water and hear a few fun stories along the way!

The Leie through Ghent – where silence flows between façades The most intimate way to feel Ghent? Drift along the Leie by boat. From the water, the city unfolds differently: historic façades reflecting in rippling canals, the atmosphere soft, timeless, and still. The cruise was serene and elegant, allowing room for both silence and story. Even on a grey day, Ghent glows — thanks to the rhythm of the river and the quiet charm of its weathered beauty. A must for slow travellers, culture lovers, and aesthetes. Leie Ghent offers more than a view — it’s an experience you feel.

September 2025: Bootjes van Gent was a great tour by boat. 'Kobe' was our tour guide Captain. First boat out of the day. Lovely and quiet on the water. Kobe was funny and gave great Medieval facts and stories. Gent words have merged into English language.... Stroppy, a story about why there are Mannequin-Pis statues and children supplying wee in Medieval times to Tanners who would use it soak leather to make it soft. They could use adult wee as it contained alcohol which made the leather tough. "Pot to piss in".

Before I bought the ticket there was an option to choose the language and I did choose English and selected specific time for boat tour. Unfortunately, when were in the boat , the captain asked if there were people who wanted to listen his touring in English. We did hold our hands then he was in a manner ok I will translate to English too. He always talked in Dutch and then translated to English. I don’t think he did translated everything in English. So , please aware that if you buy your ticket and choose English it doesn’t make any sense. Whether you choose a time or not there are boats every 20 minutes leave .The ticket process of choosing the language and choosing specific time it doesn’t make any sense at all. Even though you bought your tickets for specific time , If there are people in the queue to get on the boat you will have to wait for...
