We had the chance to visit the Sarajevo National Theatre for a local performance, which was open to the public for free — a wonderful initiative that brings culture closer to the community. Unfortunately, due to a change in our evening plans, we weren’t able to stay for the show or see the interior. Still, the exterior of the building is beautiful, with its elegant, classical architecture standing as a proud part of Sarajevo’s cultural identity. The theatre functions from opera, ballet and plays and seats barely more than 300. I reserved a ticket on their website but they have no payment processing. No problem, my ticket was waiting for me at the box office. If they say sold out I recommend trying around performance time as some of the unclaimed reserved tickets will be available. The interior is simply breathtaking, really a great experience for anyone coming in for the first time. The main hall is well-organised and very acoustic. The only problems I have with it are that the seats are definitely packed together too tight, theres 0 space for legs. It needs a lot of polishing... Loose carpets, wall stains...
