Beautiful building, but they do not even let pilgrims or Catholic faithful in to pray if they look at you and judge they do not like you. This is highly unacceptable for a church and not in line with the spirit of the Gospel. As a seminarian, it pains me to see a nun turning people away, when her calling is to welcome, not reject. A church is not a museum or a fortress. It is the house of God, meant to receive the weary and the faithful alike. To deny entry to those who come to pray contradicts the very mission of the Church. If a nun lives out her vocation by shutting the door on Christ’s followers, then one must ask: what, in the end, did she give her life for? Christ never turned anyone away at the door. The elderly man guarding the door was also extremely rude, regrettably. Something terrible must have hardened these people's hearts, so we need to pray for them.

This kind of behaviour is precisely why so many churches are increasingly devoid of young people. Granted, we are called to leave differently, transformed by the encounter, but Christ first calls everyone to come as they are. I can only hope the rector of this church is unaware of this behaviour, despite the fact that it seems to be a common occurrence based on the other comments here.

Praying for a change of heart, and a return to the true spirit...

Historicizam u graditeljstvu i skulpturi, a nazarenstvo u slikarstvu, dosegnuli su osamdesetih godina 19. stoljeća, u doba gradnje sarajevske katedrale, svoje savršenstvo.

Sacred Heart Cathedral was built in honor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, an important Catholic concept. The building is in the Neo-Gothic style, with Romanesque Revival elements. The building was awarded to the Viennese contractor Baron Karl Schwarz with supervising architect Josip Vancaš. He modeled it after the Notre-Dame in Dijon (France). Work began on 25 August 1884, and was completed on 9 November 1887. The Bishop of Dubrovnik was present for the consecration on 14 September 1889 The building was damaged during the Siege of Sarajevo, but not completely destroyed, and the damage has since been repaired. The building is often considered as a symbol of the city: The design above the door to the cathedral is part of the flag and seal of Sarajevo Canton and the Romanesque towers are featured on the flag and coat of arms...
