Excellent experience as an Anglo outsider who adores Montréal but has never truly lived here. It is mostly a museum of “everyday objects” both historic and contemporary that is propped up by oral histories, newsreel footage, interviews, and other audio-visual content. I found the museum to be very touching and a true heartfelt testament to Montrealers’ love for their city and its unique culture. Everyone’s story is told; the museum is extremely inclusive of all social groups and I think everyone can find something to identify with here. All the content was presented in its original language with either French or English subtitles. Give yourself ample time to enjoy the exhibits, each video clip lasts 3-5 minutes and the museum is rich with video content. The staff were super accommodating and I thought the gift shop was super cute dressed up as a Dépanneur. If you have any connection to this city or even a passing interest as a tourist, I encourage you to go here and see this beautiful love letter...

Decent if a bit underwhelming history museum. I was expecting something more comprehensive but the exhibits at the ground floor only present a condensed history of the city, and there were more textual information than actual historical artifacts. That said, the presentation was chronological so it was easy to follow. And I did enjoy the special exhibition on the World Expo of 1967, located at the second floor.

We thought we'd be here for at least two hours but only stayed for an hour. They charge a small admission fee ($7.50 when we visited). The gift shop was tiny and had nothing interesting to sell.

I thought the Chateau Ramezay Museum in front of City Hall had an overall better presentation and narrative. Go check it out if you're interested in...

Very nice place to visit, there are interesting conferences about different and interesting topics, I went to one about the history of Montreal’s police and few items from the police museum used by old time police, their 3rd floor changed 2-3 times a year for a theme exposition, I’ve ha seen there one related to Expo 67 and another related toMontreal City of Vice in the old days, their 1st stage you can find very interesting Montréal history divided by time periods, easy to understand and kid friendly, you can interact with certain artifacts ( only these will have the sign that you can touch) to...

This was an important addition to the limited perspectives of Montréal's history shown at many of her historic museums. We were incredibly happy to have found this spot. The whole space is dedicated to the voices, perspectives and stories of every Montréaler. There are stories from today and underrepresented populations through history in interesting and interactive displays. If you are uncertain about wearing public headphones, you may wish to bring sanitizing wipes for your comfort. Also has a great little gift shop with unique items and fun snacks and drinks, and a public space to sit and enjoy.
