A singing lobster??
I have been meaning to try out this place for a while now but conflicting schedule cause they only open from Friday to Sunday and a bit of distance for me. (Actually came by here one time before but they closed early).
This place is located in a building at an industrial area alongside with many other little restaurants and food trucks. There are also a few family parks and the Port Moody museum steps away, great little place for a family day unless you are a single bird like me lol.
Finally got a little bit of free time during the weekend and managed to eased my way to this place. There were about a dozen of customers enjoying the food outside on tables and chairs provided.
Here were the food I ordered;
Seafood chowder. Homemade style, very tasty with a generous amount of seafood. Hot buttered lobster roll. The bun was soft yet with a warm light crisp, buttery taste and texture (very nice!). The lobster chunks were nice too but maybe a little less on the dressing so not so watery, other than that, quite satisfying. Lobster with Thai coconut curry sauce on rice. Pretty flavourful, the sauce was distinct and fair amount of lobster meat.
Overall, this is a very causal little place. Almost like a little concession place for take outs with a few tables and chairs. Besides the hot food, they do sell a variety of frozen seafood to go too.
The best way to describe the staffs and service would be as if they were you next door neighbours, yes that kind of vibe (no not that ahole neighbours some may have, but the homey ones lol).
As for the food, everything was quite tasty and satisfying, at least to me itās worth the drive out this way to give it a try. Sing me another lobster...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was originally planning to grab a bowl of noodles after dropping off some cans at Return-It, but a quick Google search revealed a lobster roll spot nearbyāhow could I resist?
This is a lovely place with friendly staff and even friendlier customers. I came here for the lobster roll, and there was no way I was ordering anything elseāthough I couldnāt help adding a clam chowder and a Coke.
The lobster roll is generously stuffed with fresh, tasty lobster. No complaints there. The toasted bun is a nice touch, especially since they heat up the sides as well. The only thing that caught my attention was that the bun is sweet. Iām not sure if itās a tradition or their own twist, but while I do enjoy sweet buns, I feel the sweetness slightly masked the natural lobster flavor. Still, itās undeniably a high-quality roll.
As for the clam chowder, it started off with a strong peppery kick, but by the time I was halfway through, I found myself really enjoying it.
Overall, Iām happy to have discovered a nearby spot for lobster rollsāand they even sell fresh and frozen lobster. Definitely adding this place to my...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI came across The Lobster Guy because I was searching for Lobster Mac and Cheese, but unfortunately, they discontinued it. So my wife and I had the Lobster Chowder for $8.50 and the Lobster Coconut Curry for $13.50.
The portions are served in small 12oz cups. They definitely couldn't be any smaller without the customers left feeling ripped off :-(
My Lobster Coconut Curry was delicious. But due to the size, it's more of an expensive snack than an actual meal. And I generally don't go out for snacks. So I can't imagine being a repeat customer for this item :-(
The Lobster Chowder for the wife, was very watery and soup like. So if you are dreaming of a thicker chowder then like her you will be disappointed. Never the less, she said it was okay.
All in all, I so wanted this to be our new goto place, but as-is it's not really a "meal" :-(
Hopefully this review might help to influence / tweak things in the right...
