The W Hotel - I’m guessing the W stands for Wallet because that’s definitely what they’re after, and they don’t make up for it in service or quality. This was our first time staying at this luxury hotel in Toronto. The first thing to note is if you’re driving a large SUV or truck you might not fit in the underground parking (very short ceilings and very tight down there). You can valley, but they charge $75. You then need to take two elevators to get to the front desk located on the 6th floor. The hotel itself does look fancy with a well decorated interior, bar, and lounge area. When we checked in we were offered a room upgrade, but the process took over 20 minutes to complete and we were already running a bit behind for a show so we said thanks but no thanks. The rooms are small but sheik, so if that’s your thing then you’ll like the layout. It also had a number of switches and button to turn on lights and close the blinds, so if you’re not tech-savvy you might have a hard time navigating the room. We were surprised that the room was so warm, esp at night. Despite the cost of the room, they seem to want to keep a tight grip on their hydro bill. The day we were there it was 36 with the humidity, and even though the room showed it was trying to get to 64, it felt more like 70-72. Again if you like sleeping in that temperature then you’ll love it, but if you like it colder, avoid staying here in warmer months. Thankfully we had a breakfast included with our package, but I was pretty flabbergasted to see the breakfast bill at $80.57 (coffee, latte, and two simple breakfast dishes). Despite the cost, simple customer service experiences like remembering to fill our water or coffee were missed. Our package also included a $100 USD credit to use during our stay, which we were told at checkin could go towards our room. Then on checkout we were told we couldn’t do that, and proceed back up to the room to grab a few super overpriced items from the minibar just so we could use the credit (a can of pop was 5.50 for reference). My final comment regarding this hotel stay is that during checkout we were never asked how we enjoyed the stay or if we had any feedback. I also watched the person in front of us checkout, to which they were also not asked for feedback about their stay. I find this odd. Why not collect the first-hand feedback right then and there. If they had, I might not have felt the need to leave this review. But alas, I felt compelled to share my feedback of this luxury hotel so you can judge for yourself. Is the W for “WOW” or for “Whomp Whomp”
