On April second, my baby and I drove to this community centre in order do drop-in for the “Baby Sign Language” class which starts at 1:30 pm . We are heading on a long trip this month, I didn’t find it necessary to register for the class. But still wanted to attend and benefit from the content. On that day, my 10 months old baby decided to nap for 15 minutes longer, so I was 10 minutes late when I arrived to KCC (1:40 pm). The front desk staff (the older lady) was on the phone and it was 1:45 pm by the time that she was available to speak to me. She claimed that we’re not able to attend the class and it’s only 10 minutes left till the class finishes. First, I thought that I have confused the timing and the class has started at 1:15 pm. So I just sat down at the lobby waiting for the class to finish -I wanted to say hi to some of my friends that were attending the class. I waited for half an hour and then realized that the class is still going. Was very confused at this point as I drove all the way from Yaletown to be there and regardless that I showed up yet, I still could join the class for minimum 35-40 minutes.
So, I politely approached the lady, asked if there’s any flexibility for moms whom might show up late for the classes, babies can be unpredictable sometimes and unfortunately effecting the plans and schedules. Also, explained that I’ve been going to other baby related classes and everyone always understands if a mom shows up a bit late.
Her answer was harsh: “ I won’t allow you to interrupt the class by showing up late, specially when you do drop-ins and haven’t registered”. Let’s also remember that this lady was not very honest with me at the time that we arrived and gave me false information about the remaining time of the class.
This is such a negative experience. As a new mom, I really tried to make yesterday happen. My baby is teething and both of us are extremely sleep deprived these days. That’s why her nap was a bit behind the schedule. I’ve been feeling emotionally drained and exhausted and I really needed to interact with moms and other babies as these days, this is the only socialization that I get. Also, I’d like to use all the opportunities to learn how to help my baby’s development.
The treatment and service that I faced was unfair, not polite and very unprofessional. Very unsatisfactory customer service. I’m a City employee myself with direct contact with customers and patrons. What I experienced yesterday was way below average customer service standards . I’m aware that the main goal of Governmental/City facilities is to promote the sense of community and support. Hopefully such a behaviour won’t happen again with proper training and...
Read morePretty decent spacious gym. Free weights (ranging from 5 lbs to 100 lbs), couple of benches, smith machine, squat rack, dip bars, plenty of machines! Great for athletes who do progressive overload. Very friendly and helpful staff. If you are someone who poses a lot and needs good downlighting this gym doesn't have that, FYI, unless you go to the backroom. In fact I think my toilet has better lighting than the gym. For the most part, great people there as I haven't seen a single tripod in sight nor have I seen any TikTok rage baits in my several years of working out here. Even the broccoli-head high schoolers who show up are surprisingly polite! People clean the equipment and have good etiquette. Does get a little crowded at times, but not One Gen Gym levels of crowded. Then again, we're here to workout not to clout chase. By the way, Larry Wheels is back on the roids. I hope he doesn't get the Rich Piana treatment. The 3 scoops of Redcon1 Total War Preworkout seems to be a lot more effective at 1am than I thought.
Would rate higher but I did encounter one uneducated egotistical old hag who showed up one day and acted like a Karen to anyone using the cable machine pullup bar / chest fly as if the gym was her personal Walmart. Just because you've never seen a pullup bar in your 269 years of existence doesn't mean I'm hogging both cables on the machine, you old goof. As an addendum, the door lock to one of the bathroom stalls in the gym is loose and will open randomly. So if you take a number two be prepared for a surprise guest. If you take a number one be sure not to pull the pants all the way down. For what it's worth you might make a friend!
Overall I would give 3 stars out of 5. I would give higher if the super swole middle eastern dude who works there spoke to the hag like he did with this crackhead who once swore at a regular a few months ago. Enforcement of the fitness center rules is quite important even if it is for the most part unsupervised. That would have been funny af and...
Read moreI want to begin by saying this is the first complaint I have ever done. I am from Ireland and live in the area. I have a one year old son and was told Kitsilano community centre have a good drop in for kids for $3. It was my first time attending today, I get to front desk and I begin to say drop in for kids? The lady quickly demands $3, I hand her a $5 note and she slams $2 on the desk with no questions asked or directions of where to go. she then very quickly moves to the person behind me. I look around and see a room with kids in it with a lady on the guitar, we go in and the lady asks for the slip, I hand it to her, she says she thought her class was full but said we can stay. The class finishes 30 mins later. I went back to reception and questioned what is there to do for one year olds? She points to the gym. We go in for literally 5 mins when the lady who was playing the guitar runs in and rushes to me in front of other parents and kids and shouts you took my music class you have to pay $15. I was so embarrassed, I honestly felt she believed I was trying to steal from her. There was a panic atmosphere. I try to explain I didn't know, I thought her class was where I was meant to go. I go back to reception to pay $15 and try explain to the receptionist what happened. I say I was not giving any information from front desk of where to go that it was my first time attending and I couldn't have been met by a more unhelpful person. All she said was you have to pay $15 that's the price for a half hour class! Let me just say it is not the fact I had to pay more money, I just can't believe how unprofessional and unhelpful the staff were. The music class was good and the lady in the class was talented and the kids loved her I just wasn't happy how it was handled, very embarrassing. You go to a community centre in the hope you find a good sense of community spirit with a friendly and a warm welcome, none of this happened today and we would...
