Oakridge Centre has been around for a very long time in the west side of Vancouver. While the outset of the mall doesn’t indicate it - it is considered a higher end mall with many expensive brand name stores in the mall. They are currently going through a renovation and upgrades of the entire mall. The new mall will be impressive in its scale. For now, however, the mall is open for business. It’s a bit of a mess to get around because of all the construction that’s going on.
The food court is a decent place to grab a quick bite. It’s relatively small compared to say, Metrotown’s food court. But there are decent choices there such as Taco Lui’s, Tim Horton’s, Chinese food, Indian food, VINA (Vietnamese cuisine), Subway etc etc. there is a variety of selections that people in general will be happy. There is of course a starbucks there 😏 lunch time can be challenging to find a table. It’s usually pretty full.
Overall. The mall is a decent place to spend a few hours there. There is a White Spot restaurant as well as an Apple Store. There’s something for everyone there.
Worth a checking out if you got some time to kill. But it isn’t considered the largest mall in the city. That might be...
Read moreThe night was overcast. Rain pushed deep down through our jackets, seeming to pierce our flesh and soak our weary bones. We stumbled down the street, hoping only for a way in, and then we saw it- The Cube. It glowed so loudly in the darkness of the street, compelling us to enter, and we were helpless. Drenched and hungry, we submitted ourselves to The Cube, and with what we thought to be kindness, It let us in. Little did we know, inside we would NOT find Oakridge as we'd once known it... Instead, a lone a&w watched us, nestled in the corner of the food court and unable to accept my debit card despite my available funds. Luckily my expedition partner was able to cover it, but he found in recompense that The Cube warped his mind in the frigid eatery air which would not allow for our outerwear to dry. It infiltrated us, we think, or else compelled us to speak our darkest secrets.... For those who may read this in the near future: do not enter...
Read moreI frequented Oakridge Centre when I lived nearby, but now find little reason to go. It's a single level mall with an average retail profile despite being the second most productive mall in Canada by square footage. Its anchors are Hudson's Bay, Safeway, Harry Rosen, and Crate&Barrel. The surrounding area is rapidly developing with new condos and mid-level luxury residences since the installation of the Canada Line, but the Oakridge redevelopment mega-project has stalled, having scaled back in 2016 by the City, and then switching ownership in early 2017.
Oakridge Centre has the potential to become a world-class high-density urban hub; one can only imagine the community development if and when this project finally breaks soil, but that seems to be a ways away. For now it serves its purpose for the existing community.
I would love to follow up review once Oakridge has...
