2020 is my second winter market and I'd like to highlight a few of my favourite vendors. Whilst this market is considerably smaller than those in Kits or Queen Elizabeth park, there are some real gems the delight the East Van crowd.
Rockwell Farms: I have yet to find a better source for chicken. His eggs are reasonably priced and the chicken is oh so succulent. Weekly all winter.
Aurora Meats: Fantastic beef products. The meat is slightly gamey in all the right ways. The bones/fat make for some fantastic broth during the winter months. Weekly or Bi Weekly.
Salt & Harrow: This farm never ceases to amaze me. The potatoes often look pretty gnarly; but they're the most flavourful potatoes I can find, well into the winter months. After Stein Mountain leaves in the summer, Salt & Harrow provide top notch staples deep into the winter. Weekly until stocks run out.
Oh Sweet Day!: Anyone who's read my reviews on Oh Sweet Day! knows I love this shop. Occasionally appears.
Cedar Isle: This farm produces some of the best grains I've ever found. I'm a huge fan of their steel crimped oats;which hold their shape during the cooking process, providing a wonderful sensation of eating a solid grains--that explode in wonderfully rich oat flavours....
Read moreThis market is a little discovered gem of Vancouver Farmers Market. This is not a flashy experience where everyone gathers for a market event. In addition to several consistent produce and egg vendors, there are start up vendors. The start ups are market vendors who bring unique locally made food products. Today I bought dried powder mushroom sipping broth, dried wild mushrooms, black currant sipping shrub, Coastie vegan burger mix, homemade tomato basil soup, wild kelp, small farm sourced coffee beans, Koji soup balls, and a loaf of whole grain fig & fennel bread. Yes, I bought lots of food. It is wonderful to have so many great items in my kitchen larder so I can eat in while still enjoying the tastes of Vancouver.

I bring my two year old nearly weekly and she loves trying the samples and get her to try new foods this way. It's a win-win. It's not huge by any means but you could easily spend an hour here if you're not in a rush and want to spend some time with the vendors or eat a meal. I love how they have a boot camp for those trying to get their product to a market have a means to learn and experience things. I definitely recommend and always free parking even when there is an...
