Cerro San Cristóbal — Attraction in Providencia

…..Once you emerge from the cable car at Estacion Cumbre its just like a trip on a pilgrimage for the road up is steep and wind-dii. All along the way you will encounter many different large crosses depicting different scenes of the Crucifixion of Jesus and other scene painted in bright – colours, some more pleasant then others which are rather sombre and invokes a bit of sadness and inner reflection. Each cross also delivering a message to the visitor or onlooker and written in Spanish but easy to absorb or understand. Whilst you are making the ascent you also have the pleasure of enjoying the beautiful picturesque panoramic views of the city of Santiago below and even more beautiful is the snow-covered Andes Mountain in the distance. When you are almost at the top you find an adorable church built out of stone, not very often you can make an encounter like this, you can even take some time to enter and sit down and reflect and become quiet with in. The inside of this building is beautiful-lii made-up of cement imagery (murals of Mary) of the Crucifixion of Jesus and also other scenes reflecting this unimaginable event of more then 2000 plus years ago. Real food for thought! After this few moments of reflection as you come out of the church you see this awesome sight of this mammoth pure-white statue of the Virgin Mary with her outstretched arm over the whole of Santiago. Absolute-lii impressive to just to stand still and survey this great wonder before you. Then to get there you have to climb many steps as the sign reads “Subida a La Virgen” = Ascent to the Virgin! This massive statue stands on the roof of a small chapel and when you enter in you are greeted by love-lii murals painted on the walls again in nice bright live-lii colours and also many bible verses. There are beautiful gardens around here that are well cared for. Also a Wall of Remembrance is to be found here where the ashes of ones loved ones can be placed, As is reported that the Arch-Bishop of Santiago once said “the memorial in the sanctuary to be close to his loved ones waiting for the resurrection. At the gardens over looking Santiago the garden is designed in an outdoor amphitheater with wooden seating where down below an altar is probably to be used to conduct services(mass) here on special occasions. An array of church bells can also be found here and also a memorial in honour of San Juan Pablo 11. Hay 2 maneras de llegar, (siganme en ig: @artemjflamenco) Camino 1: gratis y fitness Camino 2: pagando el fonicular y teleferico Lo importante es llegar en la mañana a las 9 10 para que disfruten el día. Camino 1: Muchos prefieren tomar los accesos hacia el cerro trotando, caminando, en bici y con sus mascotas, para ello es necesario que tomen sus previsiones lleven comida, agua, y todos los implementos necesarios para el día protector solar, gorro lentes o protección para el frío o para refrescarse del calor ya que estándo arriba es muy costoso comprar.

(cabe resaltar que hay caminos de tierra para los que hacen deportes extremos)

Camino 1.1 (solo entrada al zoológico) : pueden entrar al zoológico sin pagar fonicular, subiendo las escaleras que quedan a mano derecha de la entrada principal en donde pagan su entrada y disfrutarán del zoológico. Creo que esta es la opción más linda y cool sin gastar tanto.

Existe también la opción para aquellos que están arriba puedan comprar entradas al fonicular o al teleferico. He visto que muchos hacen su viaje entrando desde pedro de Valdivia y suben sus bicicletas en las cabinas especiales del teleferico ó al revés, al subir desde bella vista estando arriba, siguen su trayecto hacia pedro de Valdivia o suben sus bicis por el teleferico.

Camino 2(con o sin entrada al zoológico): Siempre hay fila, al llegar muchos vendedores ambulantes les dirán que no hagan la fila que ellos los suben al cerro más económico (es otra opción pero da miedo y no conozco esa experiencia) al llegar te toca comprar entradas hay varias opciones y precios que por persona no sobrepasan los 5mil pesos. Desde la entrada por bella vista puedes comprar entrada al fonicular o fonicular más teleferico, ida y retorno, solo ida, etc...

Deben estar conscientes que el viaje es difícil para los adultos ya que hay muchas escaleras, además para las personas que temen a las alturas por ejemplo compre las entradas de fonicular más teleferico y solo comenzando a subir el fonicular a mi mamá le dio una crisis de miedo( no sabía su miedo a las alturas) al final supero su miedo y se subió al teleferico pero es una situación incomoda. Entonces no compren todas las entradas a la vez, si quieren pueden comprar entrada al fonicular. Cuando el fonicular comienza a avanzar la primera parada es en el zoológico Allí te paras y puedes comprar tu entrada si quieres y entrar al zoo, es super entretenido y grande.

Si no entraste al zoo, no quieres o no puedes, puedes seguir tu camino de subir hacia la Virgen, la primera parada y una vez que suben pueden disfrutar de las cosas que venden souvenirs, suben y ven la capilla y la iglesia, tomense fotos, luego el camino los va a llevar al teleferico, allí si les da hambre lo único que venden es waffles a 3500, hot dogs a 2500, bebidas, cabritos, churros... Nada del otro mundo. Y pueden pagar su entrada al teleferico si no tienen.

El teleferico les da el paseo, ven toda la ciudad, es lindo y relajante, y solo van 4 personas adentro.

Really nice panorama view of the city at the hill top. If you are lucky you can see Andes mountains to the east. There are performances at the hill top, busy and crowded. There is a huge 22 meter virgin Mary's statue also. Very easy to get to from the airport: take centralpuerto blue bus directly from the airport SCL to the end (near Metro Los Heros station), one way costs 1700 peso; then take red line subway 5 stops to Baquedano station, a 10 minute walk will take you to the bottom of the hill, where you can buy a ticket 1500 peso to take the rail car up to top of the hill, another 1500 peso will take you down. Note this is a very popular place, so the line can be very long. It took us a good 40 minutes to get on the car, another 15 minutes to get on the car to get down.
